of ninth grade students whose parents do not have a higher education perform at the A-level or B-level in school.

If at least one parent has a university degree, academic performance is significantly higher, with 46% of children in such families receiving high grades. A-level and B-level students are most commonly found in families where both parents have a higher education – 62.2%.

These data were obtained during a survey of 9th and 11th grade students at secondary schools that was conducted as part of a Monitoring of Education Markets and Organizations study by the Higher School of Economics and the Levada Centre.

Hari the Robot Recommends

We created Hari the robot and named him after Hari Seldon, a character who can predict the future in the works of science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. He is based on a machine-learning model that selects news based on the behavioural metrics of HSE website users.

HSE Scholars Elected to Russian Academy of Sciences

On May 30, 2025, a general meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) announced the results of the elections for its full and corresponding members. Around 1,800 individuals took part in the voting. Among those elected this year are scholars from HSE University.

The Green Marathon, organised by Sber, took place in Moscow. Several thousand people ran distances ranging from 4.2 to 21.2 kilometres, including the HSE Running Club team, HSE Rector Nikita Anisimov, and Sber’s CEO German Gref, who took part in the race alongside his son.

GSB Summer Fest’25: A Celebration that United Generations

On June 1, 2025, the Higher School of Business at HSE University hosted the most anticipated and large-scale student event of the academic year — the open-air festival GSB Summer Fest’25. The festival brought together over 1,500 students, alumni, prospective students, and faculty under the theme "Generations." Five eras, five visual codes, and five worldviews — all in one day.
