HSE Student Research Paper Competition Begins
This year the competition is accepting papers in 18 areas, two of which are new — Computer Science and Cultural Studies.
Papers can be submitted through the website. The page is currently in Russian, so please ask your fellow students for help with submitting your application. A new link will be posted once the English page is up.
Please note that there are additional recommendations on the paper’s formatting in such areas as Engineering and Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, and Media Communications.
Please fill in the registration form carefully, any mistakes may influence your results in the competition.
The results of the competition will be announced at the end of December, and an awards ceremony will follow.
The winning papers will be published in the Competitions’ collection of student papers.
The deadline for submissions is October 25, 2015.

You can find inspiration in an article about the most interesting papers submitted in 2014 (in Russian) which covered topics as varied as business raiding, soviet coins, why we love manga, and shale oil.
We accept research papers by students and 2015 graduates from all HSE campuses in Russian or English.

Two competitions are held in each area, among undergraduate students, and among master’s students and 2015 graduates.
Before you apply:
- Remove the names of the authors, co-authors and academic supervisors from the text, headers, footers, or the cover page
- Shorten the paper to 60 000 characters, including spaces. We calculate the full volume of the paper, including appendices, the cover and contents pages.
- Save the file in .doc, docx, .rtf or .pdf
- Take into account the recommendations in your nominations: Computer Science, Media Communications, Engineering and Applied Mathematics (the recommendations are currently in Russian. Please ask your buddy to help you with them).
- Don’t submit papers with plagiarism. They will be discarded from the competition by the Organizing Committee, and their author will lose the opportunity to participate in future competitions.
- Submit one paper for one nomination, or two different papers in two different nominations. A paper submitted in several nominations simultaneously, or several papers submitted by one author in a single nomination will be declined.
- Use the Times New Roman font.
The paper should consist of three parts:
- introduction (key ideas of the topic, reason for selecting the topic and its relevance and a
- short summary of existing literature on topic)
- main part (research of the problem, options for its solution, etc)
- conclusion (author’s conclusions)
A list of references should be included at the end of the work.
