Get Your Name on the Ballot for HSE Student Council

The Higher School of Economics is accepting applications for the student councils of the university’s various faculties and dormitories, as well as for the new position of Student Ombudsman. Applications are being accepted until November 26, and elections will be held on December 7.

Are you tired of lightbulbs always going out in your dormitory? Angry that the university doesn’t have enough water coolers or that your professors are unfair? If you think you’re the only person who can solve these problems and have always wanted to be responsible for the future development of your university, then this is just the opportunity for you.

Student councils are largely associated with the various events that they organize, but in reality they play a large role in self-governance at HSE. They give out scholarships, participate in financial planning, resolve conflicts, and of course, the student councils represent student interests when working with university administration.

On December 7, HSE will hold elections for ‘local’ student councils that are part of the university’s various faculties and dormitories. Several representatives from each of these groups will make up the broader HSE Student Council.

In addition to the student councils, someone will be elected for a completely new position for the university – a Student Ombudsman, or rights defender. This person will be responsible for defending students’ rights and resolving various conflicts.

Please visit the Elections website (in Russian) and the Student Council’s VKontakte page to submit an application and to learn more about election procedures, the application process, and the overall reform underway in HSE students’ self-governance.
