Computer Science Faculty Students Win Yandex Hackathon

Alexander Lazarenko and Anton Kondrashov

Second year Software Engineering students Anton Kondrashov and Alexander Lazarenko have taken first place in the Robot Battle hackathon organized by Yandex. Participants had to write a bot for any popular messaging service, that could quickly and easily solve users’ payment problems.

In total 150 people, in 44 teams, took part in the hackathon. They had 24 hours to develop their bots. Anton and Alexander created a bot for the messenger Telegram, which uses API Yandex Money.

‘We made a bot tht helps automate the sales of goods and services via messenger,’ Anton said. ‘It’s a kind of bot-builder. It means anyone can create their own bot for a business, without writing a single line of code.’

On its website, Yandex Money describes the app as follows: ‘With its help, a shop, café, or any company can quickly develop a bot that is able to interact with clients, that can for example take orders ‘latte with cinnamon, I’ll be there in 10 minutes’, ‘120 roubles’, ‘Ok’, and they pay via Yandex Wallet. The barista makes the latte, the customer turns up in 10 minutes’ time as they said, and gets the coffee already made and paid for. Thank you guys, the jury feels this is the most promising of all the ideas presented at the hackathon.’

The winners take home a prize of 150,000 roubles.
