From Music to Sports: What to Do at HSE Day 2019

From Music to Sports: What to Do at HSE Day 2019

University life is more than classes and academic conferences. Whether it’s music, creativity, sports, or volunteerism, HSE Day allows you to get to know lots of extracurricular activities and meet fellow HSE students with common interests. Below is a list of venues were you can do this.

Music

HSE Day, as well as any student’s life, is impossible without music. You can enjoy some music or dance at the Acoustical Music Platform, where talented students will be singing covers of popular songs. The Sasha Magerova Band will play a luxurious blend of jazz and soul music at the Jour Summer House.

Sports

For HSE Day, the HSE Student Sports Club organizes a sports festival in Gorky Park. Football, volleyball, table tennis, basketball, ultimate, and chess – everyone interested will be able to take part in the competitions and win the university tournament. To register for competitions, contact the HSE Student Sports Club.

Want to try a new sport? Get ready for classes in yoga, cheerleading, wushu, rhythmic gymnastics, floorball, and capoeira!

Love running? Register for the HSE Heartbeat 5k Race. It starts at 2 PM, with the route running from the Puhkinskaya Riverfront (Pushkinskaya Naberezhnaya) to Luzhnetsky Bridge (Luzhnetsky Most). Anyone over 14 years of age is welcome to participate, and it’s free. (Don’t forget to register in advance and bring a medical certificate). Winners will get prizes from the festival’s sports partner, adidas.

#HSEStudLife

#HSEStudLife Student Organizations Alley is a great place to meet people who share your interests. Here, you can meet representatives of various university communities, learn about what they do, and become a member. Representatives from HSE’s environmental and charity organizations, university media, and other associations will be there.

In addition, the venue will host the First-Year Quest: senior students believe that participating in it is the best way to learn everything there is to know about HSE University. The quest can be passed individually or in a team, and it’s not obligatory to pass all the stages, but first years who make it from beginning to end will win partner prizes!

Comedy

Those who love comedy and having fun should head over to the Central Stage (in Russian). The Stand Up Club, KVN teams (comedy troupes), and a comedy show will give audience members a good laugh. Dancing classes will also give you plenty of positive vibes.

Games

Game lovers should come over to HSE Land, where students will run the show. Here, visitors will not only play their favourite board games, but also get to know HSE student life from the inside. A Triviador game, which follows the same principles as video games, is the venue’s innovation. While playing  Triviador or HSE Quiz, you can learn fun facts about HSE University. And a university-adapted Mafia game will introduce you to HSE’s ‘gangs’.

The venue can also help you land a romantic date. Just participate in Soulmating or the Crash Out Chat.

If you want to get a ‘material’ memory of HSE Day, you might want to check one of the workshops. Here, volunteers will help you customize your clothes, make a dream catcher, or create an unusual cover for your student ID.

More information on the HSE Day venues is available on the official website.

Hari the Robot Recommends

We created Hari the robot and named him after Hari Seldon, a character who can predict the future in the works of science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. He is based on a machine-learning model that selects news based on the behavioural metrics of HSE website users.

Don’t worry — we don’t collect any personal data for this.
