Microsoft: Computing Transformed

On May 23rd Craig Mundie, Chief Technical Officer of Microsoft, spoke at the HSE Faculty of Business Informatics. The title of the lecture was ‘More Like Us: Computing Transformed’. The event was organized by the Higher School of Economics together with Skolkovo Open University and Microsoft Company.

Craig Mundie, director of Research & Development, one of the most important directions for the Microsoft Corporation, told the audience about Natural User Interface technology, which is aimed aimed at radically changing interaction between man and computer. He also spoke about recent developments which are able to change people’s way of life, their attitude to work, entertainment and means of communication. Natural user interfaces are fundamentally changing our interaction with computers, and the forthcoming technology era, where computers will increasingly do our work and more and become more like us, will have a huge influence on the world.

Within the Microsoft Corporation, Craig Mundie is responsible for long-term technology strategy as well as for cooperation with large governmental and commercial bodies all over the world; he is involved in issues of technology policy, regulation and standardization in IT. Craig Mundie pays special attention to the development of cooperation with China, India and Russia.

Craig Mundie has worked directly with Bill Gates on the technical, financial and political issues of the corporation’s global development. For over 10 years he has been the main ‘interlink’ between the company and the U.S. government with regards to the state technology policy definition. Recently Craig Mundie has become a member of the U.S. President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology. Together with his colleagues he solves national-scale problems and plans further development of science and technology in his country.

Craig Mundie holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and a master's degree in information theory and computer science from Georgia Tech.

Open Day: The Future Begins Here

On March 2, an HSE Open Day for prospective undergraduates and specialist students will take place — one of the largest and most significant events for applicants, their parents, and the entire university. Visitors will have the opportunity to speak with students and representatives of educational programmes, plan their admission process, and immerse themselves in the HSE University atmosphere for a day. The event will be held in Russian.
