The HSE Graduate School of Business and Rosgeo, Russia’s largest geological exploration holding, have launched a programme in strategic planning and reorganization management, targeted at management teams of a Rosgeo subsidiary.

During the programme, an integrated kaizen project will be designed for one of the strategic priorities of Rosgeo’s 2025 Development Programme.

A kaizen project is a project in which a production team creates optimized solutions based on the detailed analysis of a real project. The aim of the project is aligned with the strategic goals of the company. The team is crucial for the success of the project.

At the programme launch, CEO and Rosgeo Board Chairman Sergey Gorkov noted that the holding is now implementing a 2025 Development Strategy, which requires new knowledge and competences from its top managers.

I am grateful to HSE for this unique educational programme designed for the geological industry. In fact, it is the first of its kind since the 90s. In 6 months, we will have our first results, and each of us will be able to assess the knowledge we have gained at HSE and its importance for the implementation of the company’s strategy, especially during this difficult period of crisis.

Valery Katkalo, HSE First Vice Rector and Dean of HSE Graduate School of Business, highlighted the fact that the best global and Russian universities are developing based on the ‘university of the third generation’ model, which features not only the creation of academic programmes and the production of advanced research but also collaborating with companies from different industries.

For us, our partnership with Rosgeo is proof that HSE University’s development model is the right one. In the programme for Rosgeo, we implement advanced corporate learning methods with a project-based approach and digital technologies. I hope that all of you not only grow professionally and personally but also become the leaders and drivers of these big strategic changes planned for Rosgeo’s development.

Natalia Shumkova, HSE Deputy Vice Rector and Academic Supervisor of the programme  ‘Strategic Planning and Organizational Change Management Tools’, stressed that cutting-edge educational technologies have become a major part of the educational process.

We want to further develop online formats, and this programme is another step towards this aim. Interactive lectures in live-virtual format will help programme attendees to master the programme content, while group project work will allow participants to put theory into practice. Project tracking will help participants prepare and implement their projects effectively. 25 group project defenses will take place in February of 2021 with the attendance of top managers of the holding.

More than 60 top managers have started the continuing professional development programme at the HSE Graduate School of Business. GSB professors will provide unique educational experience for programme participants on topics such as strategic planning, marketing, work in the B2B sector, investment project management, and operational effectiveness management.

The Faculty of Management at HSE Nizhny Novgorod plays an important role in transforming the city and the region, as well as in the development of its entrepreneurial ecosystem - thanks to its faculty, who engage in relevant research; its students and educational programmes that include social projects, as well as international conferences, which bring together local and international professionals to share knowledge and best practices. At the same time, the provision of management education itself faces two main challenges– how to combine education and a research agenda, and how to align its academic curriculum with market demands.
