Scholarships to be Awarded to Student Research Paper Competition - 2021 Winners
On September 29, the HSE Academic Council approved the Regulation on Scholarships for the Winners of the HSE University Student Research Paper Competition - 2021. The competition winners will now receive scholarships of 20,000 roubles per month.
Scholarships will be awarded in all 24 subject areas and will be available for undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral students at HSE University.
Ivan Gruzdev, Director for Internal Monitoring and Student Academic Development
In the past, winners of the research paper competition received additional points for the portfolios they submitted in the competition for increased state academic scholarships for research achievements. However, since these increased academic scholarships have become smaller, this has ceased to be a viable tool for rewarding students. The Academic Council therefore supported the idea of establishing a separate scholarship for the 1st place winners. This will make the competition more interesting for students and will serve as an additional incentive for student involvement in research.
How the scholarships will work
First place winners in the Student Research Paper Competition who are studying at any HSE University campus will receive an additional scholarship over a period of 10 months. If a paper was co-authored, the scholarship will be divided equally among all authors.
There are four options for receiving the scholarship (we will use winners of the 2021 competition as an example):
- HSE students who are not graduating in 2022 will receive scholarships from January to June and from September to December 2022.
- Students who are graduating from HSE University in 2022 and applying for Master's degrees will be eligible for scholarships from January to June and from September to December 2022.
- HSE Master’s students who are applying to doctoral schools will receive payments from January to June 2022 and from November 2022 to February 2023.
- Winners who are not studying at HSE University can receive their scholarships once they enrol at HSE University:
upon admission to the undergraduate / graduate programme, the scholarship will be paid from September 2022 to June 2023;
upon admission to doctoral schools, the scholarship will be paid from November 2022 to August 2023.
You can submit your paper for the competition until October 15. The competition has 24 subject areas and is open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as 2020 graduates. In addition to the new scholarship, the winners and runners-up will receive many other prizes, including additional points for their Master’s applicant portfolios and academic travel grants.
More information can be found on the competition website. If you have any question, please contact the organizing committee: Tatiana Zakharova (tzakharova@hse.ru).
