HSE University Celebrates Record Online Degree Graduates in Russia

In 2024, HSE's online programmes saw 544 students graduate with master's degrees in 12 different fields—from psychology to artificial intelligence. This is an unprecedented achievement for Russian universities offering online education. The graduates received their degree certificates at a solemn ceremony in Moscow.

Despite studying remotely, the graduates were able to attend the ceremony on-site at the HSE University campus in Moscow. All students were invited to receive their certificates personally, in a festive atmosphere, and meet with classmates and teachers.

‘It seems like two years were not enough, but in fact these two years were very busy. On the one hand, I am relieved, but on the other hand, I feel sad, because my great learning journey has come to an end. The online format allowed me to work and study simultaneously, which was great, especially as I was pursuing a master's degree and, as an adult, I wanted to gain experience and study at the same time.’

‘I enjoyed every moment of the ceremony. I was looking forward to it, so now I am overwhelmed with emotions and inspiration for my new journey in psychology. Every time we started a new course, it was exciting because we were going to learn something new! Even though I saw many of my classmates and teachers for the first time today, some of us have already developed incredibly warm, genuine friendships—not just for online learning, but for life.’

‘The programme I completed provides relevant knowledge and skills. It's great that the university meets the demands of the job market.’

In 2024, a total of 544 students graduated from HSE University's online campus with master's degrees, covering 12 different programmes, ranging from psychology to artificial intelligence. This was the largest number of online master's graduates among Russian universities.

‘This is the first major graduation of students who studied online, not only at HSE University, but also throughout Russia,’ says Sergey Roshchin, HSE University Vice Rector. ‘We plan to continue developing this area and expect that in the future, there will be even more applicants choosing online education.’

Online education is a significant area of growth for the university ‘We see that the demand for eLearning is increasing every year, and we respond by launching new courses and programmes,’ said Yulia Remezova, Director for eLearning at HSE University.

This year, prospective students are invited to apply for online bachelor's and master's degree programmes in the following fields: computer science, design, law, economics and finance, management, marketing and communications, urban studies, and more. In total, admission is open for 33 online bachelor's and master's programmes in 2024. ‘There is also a flexible option for some programmes, allowing students to apply for both online and offline tracks,’ added Yulia Remezova.

HSE Online is the fifth campus of HSE University. It was launched in 2023 and offers online bachelor's, master's, and continuing education programmes, as well as courses and specialisations. These programmes are now available to students worldwide.
