Workshop "English pronunciation: Strategies to ensure intelligibility"
In an increasingly globalized academic landscape, the ability to articulate ideas clearly is paramount. At the workshop, we will delve into the perception of the Russian accent and discuss strategies for minimizing it while maintaining intelligibility. Participants will get a great deal of engaging practice as they focus on sound articulation, intonation, and contrastive stress to enhance clarity and intelligibility in spoken English. Participants will not only gain valuable insights into the nuances of English pronunciation but also develop their own articulation skill.
Speaker: Elina Shapiro teaches English for academic purposes at the HSE University. She is a graduate of The British Council summer school, Chester, the UK, and a member of International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL) Pronunciation Special Interest Group (PronSIG). She authored and co-authored over 20 research papers and textbooks. Elina taught English phonetics for many years at Nizhny Novgorod State Linguistic University. Her research interests include phonetics and phonology, methods of teaching English, diction, and public speaking techniques.
