Winter Sport Activities
Late last year, HSE’s Extreme Sports student club organized a trip for HSE students, instructors, staff, and their friends to an equestrian centre located 150 kilometres away from Nizhny Novgorod, and at the end of winter the club has extended an invitation to one of Georgia’s best ski resorts – Gudauri.
Participants got their ‘own’ horse for a few days. Riding, as well as training, took place in a group with an instructor for between two and four hours a day. Trotting through the fields, galloping between the thick firs, walking along the edge of the icy abyss… And guests who got cold from riding at such high speeds were able to return to a warm fire at the base. Horseback riding was not the only way participants could become one with nature; there was an entire zoo surrounding the centre with foxes and wolves, martens and raccoons, goats and cows, deer and rabbits, and of course dogs and cats. Students, instructors, and their friends had a wonderful time, and many of them now intend to take part in the Extreme Sports Club’s next trip to Georgia on February 21 – March 1.
Gudauri is a tourist centre and ski resort located on southern slopes of the Greater Caucasus Ridge, 120 km from the capital, Tbilisi. The skiing season here starts in December and lasts until April. The average depth of snow in winter reaches 1.5 m. Trails are equipped with modern lifts, with the lower station located at about 2000 m above sea level, and the higher station above 3300 m. Participants will be accommodated in comfortable rooms in a hotel with breakfast and dinner. Registration is open until February 16th, 2015. If you are interested in going to the trip, please contact Julia Kuzminova, second-year master's student, Head of HSE Snow Camp organising committee via email: twentinight@yandex.ru or phone: 8-985-640-00-98.
