HSE is 23

On the 27th November the Higher School of Economics will be 23 years old. The last year has been filled with new experiences and achievements and not just in research and education. Let’s look back at what has happened to the university over the last twelve months. Here are eight things you know might not know...

 

...The Higher School of Economics was ranked for the first time in the top 100 QS Ratings by Subject in Development Studies. HSE is the only Russian university in this category.

....HSE has introduced minors — additional courses which allow students to study non-core subjects and skills outside their main programme, it’s practically a second specialisation.

 

… 500 international students from outside the CIS began their studies at HSE — 1.5 times more than last year — on bachelor’s, master’s and preparatory year programmes and on student exchanges.

…HSE alumni donated a bench to Moscow to show their desire to improve the city. It is on Myasnitskaya Street outside no. 22.

...HSE won the Runet Prize 2015 for Science and Education. It’s a national prize which has been awarded since 2004 for contributions to advancing the Russian internet. The Science and Education nomination is awarded to organisations and projects which develop and popularise science online.

...In September we invited students and members of the public to sign up for our free university-wide open elective and optional courses. In just one week we had 35,000 applications from 13,000 auditors.

 

...In just one month HSE alumni donated more than a million roubles to the HSE Endowment Fund. The fundraising campaign was announced at the all-university graduation ceremony in summer 2015.

 

...Members of the HSE Extreme Sports Club planted an HSE flag on Mount Elbrus, one of the hardest summits to reach in the world. It was their third ascent.
