Students Analysed Behaviour of Internet Bank Clients

SAS in cooperation with HSE has organized and hosted Russia's first hackathon for advanced analytics SAS – an IT marathon that lets students and young specialists try their hand in solving topical analytical cases in the banking sphere.

The hackathon programme was divided into two parts: training and case solving. In the first round the participants learnt about SAS advanced analytics tools used by leading companies in Russia and the CIS, including TOP-10 Russian banks and leaders of the telecom industry.

Then the participants were divided into five teams in order to solve a case study: they were asked to find regularities in the behavior of the clients of an Internet bank using data analysis methods.

The team ‘ModelOverFit’ demonstrated the most accurate analytical model. This team, represented by Yaroslav Sergiyenko (HSE), Alexandra Trifonova (HSE) and Andrei Shestakov (HSE), became the overall winner of the hackathon.

The event was held as part of the ‘Days of computer science’ at HSE Faculty of Computer Science. Hackathon technological partner ActiveCloud provided the cloud-based platform for the competition. ActiveCloud stored the source data and SAS software that helped the participants to build their analytical models.
