HSE University Takes School Students from Vietnam on Pokrovka Campus Tour

The HSE International Admissions Office organised a guided tour of HSE University's campus on Pokrovsky Bulvar in Moscow for visitors from Vietnam who are studying Russian—a group of 20 students at Thai Nguyen High School for the Gifted and Foreign Language Specialised School, Vietnam National University, participants of the 'Russian Teacher Abroad' international project.

All the students are winners of national and international Olympiads in the Russian language, have achieved top scores in their national educational programmes, and aspire to enrol in Russian universities under educational quotas from the Russian Government.

As part of their Pokrovka Campus Tour, the school students had the opportunity to explore one of the most cutting-edge university complexes in Moscow and Russia, learn about student life and studies at HSE University, and have all their questions about admission answered.

Alexander Deev, Director for International Talent Development, HSE University

'HSE University is already quite well known in Vietnam, and every year we admit students from there. Given the high standards our university sets for foreign applicants and the well-known challenges of studying at HSE University, we strive to implement as many projects as possible in Vietnam and for Vietnamese nationals in Russia. In general, our work aims to identify talented applicants, engage with them, and support these young people when they apply to HSE university.'

The tour route included the atrium, the central part of the complex, with a visit to the Durasov House, the historical and architectural monument from the late 18th century. Next, the Vietnamese visitors were guided to a lecture hall with an amphitheatre, allowing them to experience what it is like to be HSE University students. They listened to a lecture titled 'Field research of tourism: motivations and practices of tourists.' Maxim Markin, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Social Sciences, used his own research to illustrate how engaging and effective studying at the university can be.

The tour group also visited the library, housed on three floors, which traditionally leaves a vivid impression on campus tour participants. The guests from Vietnam appreciated the modern working conditions in the library, comfortable for both independent and collaborative studies.

Nguyen An Thao, student of Foreign Language Specialised School, Vietnam National University

'We were impressed by the integration of architectural styles from various eras in the modern building of HSE University on Pokrovsky Bulvar. We saw a library equipped with computers and free Internet, a cozy student dining hall, a beautiful conference hall, and a spacious lecture room.'

During the event, the school students received advice on the procedure for admission of foreign citizens to the bachelor's programme in a separate entry competition and also learned that the results of their entrance exams could make them eligible for a 100% scholarship or a partial grant to cover the cost of tuition. In addition, the staff of the International Admissions Office's Education and Training Advisory Centre invited the school students from for Vietnam to take part in HSE University's largest international project for foreign applicants, the International Olympiad 2025 which will be held on November 5 to 16, 2024. The Olympiad prizewinners have priority in applying for scholarships and grants.

Svetlana Vasilenko, Director, Education and Training Advisory Centre, International Admissions Office

'We initiated the Pokrovka Campus Tour project with the goal of offering foreign applicants the opportunity to visit the university, experience the unique atmosphere of student life, and gain impressions that will guide their future educational choices.'

The event concluded with a lunch featuring Russian cuisine, where the Vietnamese guests shared their impressions. All participants received memorable gifts that will remind them of Russia and HSE University.

Pham Thi Huyen, teacher at Thai Nguyen High School for the Gifted

'We thoroughly enjoyed the campus tour and became interested in the International Olympiad hosted by HSE University. We definitely plan to participate with our students in the next academic year. We also enjoyed Lecturer Maxim Markin's presentation on the study of tourism in Crimea.'
