CG RAVE and the First CG WAVE Award, the Largest Computer Graphics Event in Moscow

CG RAVE and the First CG WAVE Award, the Largest Computer Graphics Event in Moscow

© HSE University

On December 14–15, 2024, the CG RAVE conference will gather top professionals in the computer graphics (CG) industry for the fourth time at its venues. This event is co-organised by the HSE Art and Design School.

CG RAVE traditionally brings together CG industry professionals, students, employers, and enthusiasts passionate about visual effects, computer graphics, and animation. This year’s event features presentations and talks by top industry experts, an HR zone with job offers from leading companies in the field, an interactive section for hands-on learning experiences, and networking opportunities.

Conference Programme

Education in CG
Challenges of modern education in computer graphics: gamification, use of neural networks, moti-vating students, speed of change in environments and software, market demand for specialists, pro-spects for education, and labour market development.
Gaming
Development prospects of gaming, monetisation in modern realities, targeting new markets, clus-ters, and the player community.
Cinematography
Labour market challenges and talent search, new market dynamics and new players, foreign orders and graphics export, AI and the use of new technologies in film.
Multimedia
The rapid growth of the graphics industry in multimedia. Trends and prospects, market potential, and capacity.

‘The CG Rave platform showcases the portfolios and work of studios and 3D artists who are connected by a shared market and network. Here, you can find inspiration in the works of your fellow industry colleagues, as well as an opportunity for collaboration with qualified contractors, and for studios, a chance to discover promising juniors or established professionals. It seems this is exactly what everyone has been missing—a place where all the best works from different genres are available once a year to help us understand the industry's level and direction,’ said Alexey Kukharonok, Head of the CGI and VFX subject area at the HSE Art and Design School.

The CG RAVE conference has become a full-fledged festival for the ‘Animation, Illustration, Computer Graphics’ subject area at the HSE Art and Design School. The event consistently gathers around 3,000 attendees, including CG industry professionals, leading specialists in creative industries, newcomers to the field, and major brands. This year, public programme will feature speakers from Lesta Games, TRЁHMER, MainRoad Post, WATT Studio, Petrick, and other CG industry experts.

Additionally, the event will include an award ceremony for the winners of the CG WAVE industry award, for which applications can be submitted starting today.

CG RAVE is one of the most anticipated events of the year in the computer graphics industry, bringing together professionals and those just starting their careers. This year, we held CG RAVE in April, and the fact that registration closed a week before the event, due to capacity limitations, shows that the talks, presentations, and networking opportunities in an informal setting were something the industry needed.

This time, we are enhancing the programme with an important event for the industry—the first large-scale CG WAVE Award in computer graphics. There are 10 categories, and submissions are already open. Submit your projects for a chance to be selected by the jury to receive the CG WAVE statuette award,’ shared Elena Degtyaryova, one of the CG RAVE organisers.

Hari the Robot Recommends

We created Hari the robot and named him after Hari Seldon, a character who can predict the future in the works of science fiction writer Isaac Asimov. He is based on a machine-learning model that selects news based on the behavioural metrics of HSE website users.

Don’t worry — we don’t collect any personal data for this.

‘You Should Study Mathematics, Combinatorics, and Catalan Numbers instead of Playing Computer Games’

In early November, the final of the MTS True Tech Champ—which brought together more than 12,500 schoolchildren, students, and young programmers—took place. Alexander Babin, student of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, was named the winner of the ‘Algorithmic Programming’ track.
