On May 22, ICEF HSE hosted a delegation from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics’ Research Institute of Economics and Management (RIEM SWUFE) in Chengdu, China, led by RIEM Executive Dean Professor Dong Yan. The parties exchanged signed copies of a cooperation agreement for the joint delivery of a Double-Degree Bachelor Programme in Economics and Finance. They also discussed future prospects for cooperation in areas such as a joint Master’s programme, student and faculty exchange, summer schools, and joint research projects.

Ana Livia Araujo Esteves, from Sao Paulo, Brazil, is a journalist, a third-year doctoral student of International Relations, and visiting lecturer at the HSE School of International Regional Studies. In her interview for the HSE News Service, she speaks about her motivation to carry out research and teach students in Russia, shares some tips for people from Latin America living in Moscow, and talks about why a dog can be a reason to stay in Russia for just a bit longer.

HSE University and the Institute of Legislation and Legal Policy (ILLP) under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan have signed a memorandum of intent, which will form the basis for a future cooperation agreement. The institute is a state expert research facility created within the framework of the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy. It plays a significant role in the examination of draft laws: an expert opinion from the ILLP is mandatory when considering legislative acts.

In late April 2014, the Faculty of Social Sciences was established at HSE University by integrating four existing faculties of sociology, psychology, applied political science, and public administration and governance. Today, over 5,000 students are enrolled in its educational programmes, with more than 300 instructors teaching classes. In this interview for HSE University Life, Professor Andrei Y. Melville, Dean of the Faculty, discusses its evolution over the past decade, its achievements, expectations for applicants, the upcoming admissions campaign, and why every humanities scholar needs to study computer science.

At the end of May, HSE University hosted the traditional Oriental Crazy Day. This year the holiday was held for the tenth time. For students, this is an opportunity to show their talents on stage, take part in fortune-telling with the Book of Changes, and learn more about the diversity of Asian cultures as well as the bachelor’s programme ‘Asian and African Studies.’

A delegation from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) visited HSE University. As part of the visit, a roundtable discussion on ‘Russia and China: Comprehensive Partnership and Strategic Interaction in a New Era’ was held. Participants discussed issues related to the Russian-Chinese strategic interaction in global and regional security, finance, trade, and investment. The meeting was moderated by Victoria Panova, Vice Rector of HSE University, Head of the BRICS Expert Council–Russia, and Russia's Sherpa in the ‘Women's Twenty.’

HSE University-St Petersburg and University of Technology Malaysia (UTM) have opened a mirror laboratory in social entrepreneurship. The opening ceremony of the Russian part of this laboratory took place during the International Partners' Days, which gathered delegations from 23 foreign universities.

On May 23 in the Presidential Library in St Petersburg, leaders and experts from 23 universities of 15 countries participated in the first day of the International Partners' Days. Apart from the lively discussion about global tendencies in the development of higher education, HSE University has signed partner agreements with the universities of India, Uzbekistan and Oman.
