The HSE Vysokovsky Graduate School of Urbanism has made a documentary on renovation in Paris. In it, government officials, architects and residents of the Paris suburbs discuss social and urban projects changing the city. The film was shown on December 21 at Shukhov Lab.

HSE Celebrates Anniversary Night
On November 27, HSE celebrated its 25th birthday with Anniversary Night (because an average birthday party would have been rather dull). The celebration featured an entire array of different activities, and HSE students themselves came up with the evening’s programme. Anniversary Night began with the finale of the Research Battles, and from 8:00 p.m. onward, the grand ‘Night’ festival by Ingroup CTC continued. Studying Russian Language and Culture with HSE
For the second year now HSE Saint-Petersburg has been gladly welcoming students from UCL School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies, coming to improve their language skills and immerse themselves into the mysterious Russian culture. Last weekend this year’s group of UCL SSEES students have visited Velikiy Novgorod – the cradle of Russian statehood and a real architectural gem. Helen Fortescue-Poole shared her impressions of the trip and told us about her academic life at HSE Saint-Petersburg.
Pham Cong Thang – Pursuing a Post-Doc in Computer Science
On September 12, Pham Cong Thang, who goes by Thang, arrived in Moscow to begin a post-doctoral fellowship at HSE’s International Laboratory of Deep Learning and Bayesian Methods (Faculty of Computer Science, Big Data and Information Retrieval School). Working under the supervision of Professor Dmitry Vetrov, Thang will focus primarily on text and image processing, and computer vision.
HSE St. Petersburg Pursues Cooperation with Korean Universities
On October 17-21, a delegation from HSE St. Petersburg, including Sergey Kadochnikov, Director of the HSE Campus in St. Petersburg, and Olga Krylova, Head of HSE St. Petersburg International Office, visited Korea during a trip sponsored by the St. Petersburg Committee for Science and Higher Education.
‘Stolen Wheels’ to Serve the Good Turn for HSE
The results of the 'Steal the Wheel’ Competition have been decided. Entrants suggested implementing some useful practices at HSE that had proved their efficiency at other Russian or international universities, with the winners receiving their prizes at the beginning of December. The winning projects include new approaches to writing theses, organising space in classrooms, and submitting reports on academic trips.

HSE St. Petersburg: Finding a Special Focus
HSE has campuses in four cities, and HSE St. Petersburg opened five years after the main campus, in 1997. It has over 4200 students, over 300 faculty members and 100 researchers who focus on different frontline issues in economics, business, humanities, law and social sciences. Returning Home to Study Business and Management at HSE
For Hoang Thanh Tung, who recently earned his bachelor’s degree at the Institute of International Languages - Vietnam National University, the decision to pursue a Master’s degree in the Faculty of Business and Management at HSE is in some ways a homecoming. Although coming most recently from Hanoi, Vietnam, he was born in Russia and spent much of his time growing up in the country, living with his parents in both Moscow and Ufa.
