The Moscow office of the consulting company Oliver Wyman holds an annual case competition, ‘Oliver Wyman Impact’ for students and graduates of Russian universities. Participants are invited to solve a business case. Within a few weeks, the participants have to conduct a detailed analysis and prepare a presentation illustrating the solution of the case.
This year the participants solved a case on reducing the deficit of the state budget by raising tax revenues in the Federal budget.
‘We focused on the key leverage that determines tax revenues and, as a result, a set of measures was developed to improve efficiency in tax collection and broaden the tax base by reducing the shadow economy,’ said the students.
After several rounds, the five teams with the best results presented their projects in the final. According to the jury, made up of top managers from Oliver Wyman and industrial experts, the students from the 'Strategic Corporate Finance' Master’s programme were named the winners.
‘It was a great opportunity for us to taste the atmosphere of a real consulting project, to improve our skills of teamworking and solving non-trivial cases in short time, – said the team members, sharing their impressions of the event. - Studying on the programme has helped us to become a united and tight-knit team, and that was undoubtedly one of the key factors of our success’.
The winners of the case competition will now have the opportunity to start a career in the company, as well as being awarded valuable prizes.
