Study of Creative Industries in Perm Krai Conducted by HSE University in Perm
The first large-scale creative industries forum ‘Spheres’ took place in Perm on December 6, 2024, bringing together federal and regional industry experts, as well as representatives of the authorities and the public. The forum included a joint meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the Development of Creative Industries in Perm Krai and the Regional Expert Group at the Centre for the Development of the Creative Economy at the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (CDCE ASI). Researchers from HSE University in Perm presented a study on the state of creative industries in Perm Krai and a comprehensive assessment of their development prospects.
The group preparing the project ‘Conducting an expert study to analyse the state of creative industries in Perm Krai and formulate proposals for their development’ included:
- Elena Shadrina, Deputy Director,
- Aleksandr Maltsev, Head of the Centre for Applied Economics,
- Anastasiya Bozhya-Volya, Associate Professor at the School of Management,
- Dmitry Kashin, Associate Professor at the School of Economics and Finance,
- Svetlana Suslova, Associate Professor at the School of Economics and Finance.
The authors of the study analysed the contribution of creative industries to the economy of Perm Krai, made an inventory of entities in this sphere, collected peer reviews of the industry state and prospects of its growth, and developed guidelines.
The joint meeting of the Interdepartmental Working Group on the Development Of Creative Industries in Perm Krai and the Regional Expert Group at the CDCE ASI was attended by representatives of regional authorities and creative industries, as well as by the public and academics. The Creative Industries Forum is a large-scale event that brings together representatives of various creative industries and authorities, as well as academics and the public. At the forum, we presented preliminary results of a study on creative industries in Perm Krai, which is being conducted at HSE University. Our task was to identify the impact of creative industries on the region’s economy, make an inventory, and to identify existing developmental barriers and possible support measures. The results of our research were reflected in the speeches of the government officials.

The conclusions presented are based on a thorough analysis of databases on the number and performance of creative industries in Perm Krai. Furthermore, results are derived from focus group feedback collected from entrepreneurs in the five most developed creative industries on the problems and prospects for growth of the respective industries. Anna Bykova, Head of the Agency for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises in Perm Krai, noted that the preliminary results presented by HSE University were generally in line with the Agency's statistics and analyses. Additionally, work with experts revealed several significant ideas that should be applied for the successful development of the creative industries cluster in Perm Krai.

CIBA 2024: Meeting of Art and Business at the New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theatre
On March 17, the New Stage of Alexandrinsky Theatre will hold CIBA—the conference about creative industries—for the fourth time. It is a joint project of HSE University-St Petersburg students and the New Stage. The central topic of this year is immersion in the nature of creativity and creative crises. Entry to the event is free but registration is required.
Telling Stories 2023: Faculty of Creative Industries Festival Held at HSE University
On May 27 and 28, the Telling Stories festival was held at HSE University on Pokrovsky Bulvar. The event, launched six years ago at HSE University’s Faculty of Creative Industries, consistently attracts leading experts from the fields of new media, digital industry, cinema, marketing and communications, art, design and fashion. This year’s programme included lectures, interviews, performances, workshops, screenings, and discussions on topics relevant to the creative community.
Telling Stories Festival to Be Held outside Moscow for the First Time
The Telling Stories Festival of Creative Industries is a non-profit project created in 2018 by HSE Faculty of Communications, Media and Design. This summer, for the first time, the festival won’t be held in Moscow, but, instead, will unite and expand the creative communities in St. Petersburg, Nizhny Novgorod and Kazan. The capital of Tatarstan will host guests on June 11th, with an exhibition, free lectures, and concerts in some of the main venues around the city.
