An article by Igor Makarov, Director of the HSE Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change, co-authored with Elizaveta Smolovik, Junior Research Fellow at the Laboratory for the Climate Change Economics, has been published in Energy Research & Social Science, one of the leading international journals in the field of energy and social research. The study analyses which countries stand to gain or lose in the context of the global energy transition.
Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change at the XIII Annual Conference on the World Economy
From 3 to 5 December 2025, the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs at HSE University hosted the XIII Annual Conference on the World Economy, “BRICS and Rethinking the Global Economic Order”. Staff members of the Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change at HSE University took part in the conference, presenting a number of academic papers.

On 28 November 2025, an expert and academic seminar entitled “International Cooperation on Climate Change: Current State and Future Prospects” was held. The event was organised by the Institute for Macroeconomic and Regional Studies (Uzbekistan) in cooperation with the Institute for Economics of Natural Resources and Climate Change at HSE University, with the support of Gazprombank.

Visit to the Oran Graduate School of Economics (ESE Oran), Algeria
At the height of the tangerine season in Russia, Oleg Korneev, Academic Supervisor of the BA programme “International Relations and Global Studies” (IRGS) visited Oran (Algeria). The province of Oran is the birthplace and the veritable capital of clementines, which makes visiting it in winter especially symbolic. But Oran is known not only for its sweet sunny citrus fruits, rai music, urban legends from the times of the plague, inimitable architectural blends and unique seaside atmosphere that inspired works of Albert Camus and creations of Yves Saint Laurent. This second-largest city in Algeria is also an authoritative business and cultural centre, and a major pole of research and higher education in the country.
