The heads of HSE departments presented the opportunities the university provides to international students and researchers.

The HSE Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology has become one of the organisers of the ‘Nature and Climate’ photography contest. The goal of the contest is to celebrate the beauty of nature and its connection with climate, as well as to showcase modern approaches to studying natural ecosystems and their role in climate regulation. The contest is open to all, and the best photographs will be displayed at an exhibition in September, timed to coincide with the fifth anniversary of the faculty.

HSE University’s Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology is launching a Master’s programme in Spatial Data and Applied Geoanalytics. The first enrolment will take place in 2024. It is aimed at training specialists who are proficient in modern tools for working with geodata and geoanalytics to make high-quality management decisions in business and public administration.

The Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology opened at HSE University in 2019, enrolment in the first bachelor’s programme took place in 2020, and the first master’s programme was launched in 2022. Nikolay Kurichev, Dean of the Faculty, describes how the idea to train geographers within the walls of HSE University originated, what results have been achieved, and what difficulties have been encountered over the years.

The bachelor’s programme ‘Geography of Global Changes and Geoinformation Technology’ is offered by the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology, one of the newest at HSE University. On March 12, the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technologies of the National Research University Higher School of Economics hosted an Open Day for the Master's Program in Low-Carbon Development. What is happening to nature and the climate? How does it impact the global economy? How are countries going to adapt to these changes? These and other questions will be discussed by experts in a series of discussions as part of ECOCUP Green Talks 2021, a festival of ‘green’ documentaries. The event is organized with support from the HSEFaculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Russia.

Nikolay Kurichev spoke at the IV International Conference "Natural Tourism: Global Challenges and Prospects for Russia". Within the framework of the plenary session "Natural tourism - a driver of sustainable development", the participants discussed a model of introducing tourists to nature in accordance with the Strategy for the development of tourism in the Russian Federation for the period up to 2035 (approved by the Order of the Government of the Russian Federation of 20.09.2019 No. 2129-r ).

HSE University is opening a Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology in partnership with the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IG RAS). The Faculty, which will focus on global climate change, geoinformatics, and social geography, plans to launch its first bachelor’s programme in 2020.
