Researchers Discuss How the Pandemic Is Changing Civic Activism
In October, HSE University held the 10th Conference of Civil Society Researchers, organized by the Centre for Studies of Civil Society and Nonprofit Sector. The main topic of this anniversary forum was ‘The impact of the crisis on the development of the nonprofit sector and citizen self-organization in Russia: New realities and prospects’. The conference was co-organized by the Association "European University for Volunteering" (EUV) and the United Nations Volunteers Programme (UNV), a long-time partner of the centre.

Muscovites and Residents of Moscow Oblast Ready to Be Socially Active
On February 13, the director of HSE’s Centre for Studies of Civil Society and Non-Profit Sector, Irina Mersiyanova, presented the results of the project entitled ‘Social Activity of Muscovites in Figures’. The research was conducted by the Centre in December 2017. 2018 has been proclaimed the Year of the Volunteer by the President of the Russian Federation.
HSE Staff Recognized for their Contribution to the Theory of Research into the Public Sector
Joint work led by David Horton Smith, Leading Research Fellow at the Centre for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector (CSCSNS) (Research and Emeritus Professor of Sociology, Boston College, Chestnut Hill, USA), and director of the Centre, Irina Mersiyanova has received the Felice Davidson Perlmutter Award for the best theoretical research work into the non-profit sector.
12th ISTR Conference: HSE Researchers Presented Record Number of Papers
The 12th International Society for Third Sector Research (ISTR) Conference took place in Stockholm and was entitled ‘The Third Sector in Transition:Accountability, Transparency, and Social Inclusion’. The conference is held biannually and is a major academic event in its field.

Summer School on Innovation in Civil Society Completed in July
The Third Summer School of the HSE’s Centre for Studies of Civil Society and the Nonprofit Sector (CSCSNS) took place in July. Its topic was ‘Theoretical and Empirical Studies of Social Innovation as a factor for Developing Civil Society, the Nonprofit Sector, and Volunteerism’.
Academic Council: New Departments and Achievements
On June 29th 2012, the latest regular session of the Higher School of Economics Academic Council took place at the HSE. The agenda included information on the launch of new faculties and departments, approval of certain regulatory documents, as well as the results of the voting process for the teaching staff competition.

On September 19th Kenn Allen, a leading international expert on corporate volunteering, spoke at a seminar organized by the HSE Center for Studies of Civil Society and the Non-Profit Sector on ‘Corporate Volunteering: a Global Perspective’.
