From April 24 to 30, HSE University will host an e-sports tournament. The tournament’s co-organizer, Sasha Yakovleva from CyberHSE, told us about the competition and how to participate.
An e-sports tournament is a competition between individuals or teams in virtual reality. E-sports have been acknowledged as an official sport and are very popular among players across the world. In 2024, e-sports is slated to join the list of Olympic sports.
HSE University has hosted tournaments before, but this is the first time we are inviting all interested students to participate. E-sports is relevant like never before during this period of online learning and quarantine.
Dota 2
The aim in this game is to destroy the main building on the opponent’s territory. Each player has a character who they control as a third party. The game has over 100 characters, and in front of each map, the captains choose five of them – an important decision that largely determines the course of the game. Each new game is unique and is not connected with the previous ones.
Hearthstone
This is a digital card game in the universe of Warcraft. The aim is to destroy the opponent’s hero by using cards from a previously compiled deck. Forms of battles vary depending on the tournament, which means the number of classes and decks used by the players changes. The main goal of a player is to create their own collection of cards.
CS:GO
The game in Counter-Strike is organized as several rounds in a match between two teams, one of which plays the role of ‘terrorists’, and the other performs as ‘counter-terrorists’. Before each match, the players choose a map of the battle space. The goal is to beat all the opponents or complete certain missions, which may be different on different maps.
FIFA 20
A sports simulation game. The participant controls a football team on a field, switching between players. Everything is organized the same way it is in real football: two halves, yellow/red cards, and penalty kicks. The aim of the game is to win the football match.
Student e-sports associations often organize joint competitions: it’s easier to attract a big audience if the efforts are joint. Also, such collaborations help establish cooperation between universities and foster a competitive spirit.
The Bauman E-sports association has been very enthusiastic about our suggestion to carry out a joint event. People from the Bauman University supported our ideas and came up with their own. Such collaboration is a great opportunity to organize a large-scale event.
The tournament welcomes students from Moscow universities who are into e-sports and want to try their hand at the games represented at the event.
We are organizing live broadcasts of the games on Twitch, a streaming platform, and YouTube. All the results will be published in the CyberHSE group.
As of today, PepsiCo has confirmed its readiness to become a sponsor. The company is willing to award the winners with headsets and keyboards. We are also negotiating with other companies, so the complete prize fund will be announced later in April.
The tournament will take place from April 24 to 30. Dmitry Krupnov from Ruhub Studio and Pavel Pistsov, CS:GO player and streamer, will provide commentary and analysis of the competitions.
