There have been concerns about the availability of rooms in the HSE dormitories for international students who have graduated this year but are unable to leave Russia due to pandemic-related travel restrictions. HSE Vice Rector Ivan Prostakov addressed these concerns and urged those who are able to return to their home countries.
‘We understand that international students who graduated from HSE in June have found themselves in a complicated situation due to the fact that they could not return to their home countries. This is why the university administration allowed them to continue living in the dormitories until the end of the summer break, August 12, although there is now no longer any basis for this.
‘We are now preparing for the new academic year and, in August, new and returning students will begin moving into the dormitories. We are therefore compelled to ask those who have graduated to now vacate the premises so that rooms can be made available for arriving students. Please note that the automatic extension of your visa until September 15 does not mean that your residence is also automatically extended to this date.
‘It is now possible for students to arrange international flights to their home countries, even if only indirectly. In the extreme case a student is in fact unable to book a flight home and must await a special evacuative flight to their home country, the HSE administration is prepared to accommodate that student at the HSE Voronovo Study Centre until September 15.’
