Konstantin Sonin, Professor and Academic Supervisor of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences, has been conferred the Yegor Gaidar Award.
After receiving the award, Professor Sonin noted that it is one of the most important national awards for economists in Russia, citing Yegor Gaidar’s contribution to economics and Russian history. ‘He had a combination of knowledge in real economy, a clear understanding of economic theory, but most importantly, an incredible ability to make decisions,’ said Prof. Sonin in his acceptance speech.
Alongside Konstantin Sonin, the prize in the category ‘For Outstanding Contribution to Economics’ was also awarded to Ruben Enikopolov, Rector of the New Economic School (for his studies in political economy analysis, media economics, development economics and corporate finance, as well as advancing contemporary economics education in Russia as NES Rector).
Dmitry Zimin, HSE professor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, was awarded in the category ‘For Acts of Devoted Enlightenment and Developing the Tradition of Charity in the New Russia.’
Representatives of the International Memorial were also conferred 2020 Yegor Gaidar awards: Alexander Shcherbakov, Alyona Kozlova, and Irina Ostrovskaya (for their book ‘All Sorrows Fell Upon My Heart. The Lives of Peasants in the 20th Century. Memoires’)
