The HSE Centre for Student Academic Development (CSAD) is now accepting applications for the second collaborative student research project competition. The competition is open to students of all HSE campuses and participants of the student organization, the Republic of Science. In the competition, students can try their hand at being a research project author or research team organizer.
The first competition took place last year. Its winners implemented five different interdisciplinary projects, from start to finish: from formulating an idea and creating implementation plans to publishing articles in an international peer-reviewed publication. The competition gives students the unique opportunity to bring an idea on any topic to fruition: from creating a Russian-Chinese parallel corpus of the Russian National Corpus to studying the production of a psychiatric subject in Russian legal discourse and putting forward project proposals for Russian airlines. In addition, the competition brings together students from different academic programmes, faculties, and, starting this year, different HSE campuses.

The competition allows students to develop academic teamwork skills and create scholarly or scientific student communities at the University. It also motivates and prepares them to apply for research grants. We invite students to try themselves as research team leaders, to see how academic research works in a team, to learn how the roles and tasks in research are distributed, and to see that the ‘grant treadmill’ does not hinder breakthroughs in research.
The winning teams will have the opportunity to participate in the entire research grant process over the course of a calendar year, from writing an application to presenting a scientific or scholarly report. Thus, they get to experience the whole process: it is not a research grant per se, but rather a chance to use financial, organizational, and expert support from the organizers to carry out their research while developing their research skills as well as their ability to create and work on a research team.
Enter the competition and implement your own research project!
Submit an application here from February 1 to February 28.
Undergraduate and graduate students of all academic programmes and all HSE campuses are eligible to participate.
Each student group must consist of at least 3 people.
Only participants of the Science Republic may serve as group leaders and complete an application.
