On April 9, 2022, HSE University will serve as a venue for the Total Dictation literacy event. The university has been a host of the competition since 2013, and acted as its strategic partner in Moscow in 2019. This year, the dictation will be held at HSE University’s buildings on Myasnitskaya, Shabolovka, and in Strogino.
The annual educational event was first held in 2004. The event is designed to bring together anyone who wants to write and speak Russian—participants of any age, nationality, level of education and social status are welcome to take part.
The Total Dictation campaign highlights the importance of literacy, and shows that while studying Russian may not be easy, it is fascinating and useful.
Over the last 18 years, more than 140,000 participants interested in literacy and the culture of the Russian language have taken part in the campaign. With people joining from more than 80 countries and 600 cities, Total Dictation is truly a large-scale global event.
The text for Total Dictation 2022 was prepared by Marina Stepnova, writer, poet, translator, screenwriter, winner of the ‘Big Book’, ‘National Bestseller’, ‘Russian Booker’ and ‘Yasnaya Polyana’ awards.
Those interested in taking part in the event should choose a format—online or on-site. Those who prefer to attend an on-site dictation can choose from 222 venues with 12,617 places available in Moscow.
Igor Vernik, theatre and film actor, TV producer, TV and radio host, singer and film composer, will read the text of the dictation.
Elena Valyushkina, theatre and film actress, will read the text of the dictation.
Pavel Chinarev, Russian theatre and film actor, will read the text of the dictation.
The dictation starts at 14:00 on April 9, 2022. The organisers ask participants to arrive early. Those interested in taking part in event at HSE University should register on the official page.
