Dmitry Dagaev graduated from the Moscow State University Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics in 2006 and the New Economic School in 2008. He obtained his Candidate of Sciences degree (PhD) in 2011.
He started working at the HSE University Department of Higher Mathematics in 2010. From 2013, in his capacity as deputy to Vice Rector Maria Yudkevich, he coordinated the work of academic development tools (academic bonuses, evaluation of publication activity, research and study group competitions, travel grants). In 2020, he was appointed Director for Academic Development.
In his new position, Dmitry will continue to work on HSE University’s academic development, as well as coordinate the university’s research activities regarding basic research. His predecessor, Maria Yudkevich, held the post of Vice Rector for Science since 2011 and has now decided to continue her work at HSE University as Director of the Institute for Institutional Studies and Professor of the Faculty of Economic Sciences.
HSE University students have named Dmitry Dagaev one of the university’s Best Teachers six times. In 2020, he was a finalist in the ‘Science’ specialisation of the Leaders of Russia competition.
Dmitry’s main area of interest is the economics of sport. His work has been published in leading international industry journals in sports studies and theoretical economics, and he has served as Head of the Laboratory of Sports Studies since 2018. He has been involved in compiling the match calendar for the Russian Premier League since 2019, and was also involved in the development of a recommendation system for assigning referees for the Russian Football Union.
He is an active member of the school olympiad movement. He is the chair of the jury of the All-Russia Olympiad in Economics and served as jury member and head of the methodological commission of the ‘Highest Standard’ (Высшая проба) Olympiad in Economics for several years. In 2017, he proposed the creation of the International Economics Olympiad (IEO).
