The conference’s programme traditionally features expert discussions on the most pressing economic, social, internal and external issues, as well as honorary reports and various associated events. Participants include state officials, leading Russian and foreign experts, and distinguished academics from all over the world. Most events are held in either Russian or English, but certain discussions will be bilingual and will feature simultaneous translation services.

The HSE Department of International Relations, the International Laboratory for Research on World Order and New Regionalism, and the Bulgarian Club are holding a seminar entitled ‘One Year After’. The guests of the seminar are Ivan Krastev, political scientist, chairman of the think tank of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia and researcher at the Human Sciences Institute in Vienna, and Dimitri Trenin, one of the most respected Russian experts in international relations, Senior Research Professor at the Faculty of World Economy and World Politics of the Higher School of Economics.

This year’s conference is devoted to the future of art and art research in the 21st century. It also addresses the role and function of art and design in modern society. The key topics of the conference include: the socio-economic contexts of art and design in the 20th and 21st centuries; the institutionalisation of art and design and corresponding educational strategies; museum practices; various facets of the artist-curator-viewer-researcher relationship; and the latest research in cultural studies (including media studies, game studies, cinema studies, and more).

Club Italiano is hosting a screening of Life Is Beautiful (La vita è bella), a film directed by and starring Roberto Benigni. The story takes place during the Holocaust, which in Italy started with the adoption of racial laws in 1938. The initially surprising and inconceivable juxtaposition of large-scale human tragedy with comedy earned the film acclaim and prestigious awards around the world.

HSEIMUN is an academic event for high school and university students. It is devoted to global issues and organised in the Model United Nations format, simulating the UN and its main committees. During the conference, participants represent various countries, formulate their positions, and take part in the discussion of resolutions.
