Beware of Scammers!

What to do if you receive a malicious email claiming to be from a colleague or the HSE University administration

ALUA UALIEVA // HSE UNIVERSITY

To HSE University students, teachers, and staff:

Please be careful when receiving phone calls and messages, observe digital hygiene practices, and do not give personal or work-related information to third parties.

Recently, scammers have been sending messages on social media and messaging services claiming to be from the HSE University administration, including Rector Nikita Anisimov. These messages include requests for university staff to provide information to a so-called ‘HSE University curator’, asking the recipient of the message to approach the conversation ‘responsibly’. Some university staff have already received such messages, and more cases are being identified. Please note that the exact content of these messages may vary.

Andrey Moiseev

Director of the Information Security Centre

When you come into contact with scammers, you can fall victim to them. We recommend blocking unknown numbers and accounts that message or call you (they can change). If you receive such a message in your university email account, please forward it in the form of an attachment to antispam@hse.ru. This will allow us to improve the effectiveness of our system for combatting spam emails (including scams).
