What to Do if You Are Injured at University

A guide for students and staff

© Daniil Prokofyev/ HSE University

It is an unfortunate reality that accidents can happen at university. The HSE University Occupational Health and Safety Service investigates and keeps a record of every accident that occurs on university premises, including in student dormitories. This helps to identify problematic and high-risk areas.

After a thorough examination, appropriate precautions are taken to minimise the risk of injury, training sessions are held, and the infrastructure of university buildings is renovated and improved.

Important: Employees who are injured on university premises must report it to their supervisor and call Occupational Health and Safety on extension 11030. Students who suffer an accident must contact their programme office. Please remember this if you are involved in or witness an incident.

If a student or staff member suffers an injury and is unable to study or work for one or several days (having obtained a doctor’s note), the accident will be investigated by a specially created university committee (injuries suffered on the way to or from university are not investigated).

If necessary, students and staff can get medical assistance at the university’s first-aid stations. The facilities are fully equipped to offer first aid and CPR until paramedics arrive.

In partnership with the Russian Red Cross, HSE University regularly holds training sessions on administering first aid. Those interested in taking part can sign up here (page in Russian).
