The Hackathon is a special event for developers that involves application or service development in a marathon mode. Participants had 48 hours to develop a mobile application from scratch, starting with the initial idea to the prototype. The participants worked day and night without rest. The Hackathon in Perm was sponsored by Google, other international partners like Autodesk, and regional tech companies with global ambitions, such as RealtimeBoard and VitaminGroup. Ten teams took part in the event. Their work was reviewed by a professional jury.
Students of the software engineering programme, Andrey Kuchev and Mikhail Timofeev, and Alexander Fedotov from the business informatics programme won in the category of the Dom.ru company by using multiscreen technology. The students presented the idea they developed during a previous hackathon — an application for diagnosing a disease based on symptoms. This time, however, they focused on the design and Android compatibility. In addition, Mikhail Timofeev analyzed the market. The students also showed how the application could be integrated into Smart TV.
Andrey Kuchev shared his impressions after taking part in the hackathon: ‘I was greatly impressed by the Digital Port where the event took place, and by the hackathon as a whole. There were two large halls for working, excellent organization, an informal atmosphere, and a lot of cookies – what else do you need for work?’
