On February 26th, 2016, Donor Day took place for the fourth time at HSE in St. Petersburg. This time 77 people became donors, although the number of willing volunteers was even higher.
‘We’ve donated almost 35 litres of blood today! Thanks to everyone who’s made a difference! And especially to those who give blood regularly. I want to remind that if you donated for the first time, you’ll have to donate again six month later so that the blood can be used’, said Ksenia Kuzmina, Head of the Office for Extracurricular Work.
For many students, this wasn’t the first time they had donated blood, and for Pavel Alexandrov, 3rd-year student of history, this was his fifth visit! Initially, the Donor Day was organized by HSE students in St. Petersburg as part of their project activities and took place at the City Blood Transfusion Centre, but now a mobile blood donor station visit the university twice a year. According to the organizers, each time the event is held, the number of those willing to become donors increases.
Ruslan Yagudin:
I’ve donated blood at HSE three times, and every time I look forward to Donor Day. I believe that it’s great that the university offers its students the opportunity to participate in events like this. By donating blood, we not only help the people who need it, but also take preventive care of our immune system.
The Pirogovy Dvorik (Pie Yard) company traditionally sponsors the event with a variety of pies to help the donors restore their powers. The St. Petersburg branch of the Russian Red Cross also supported the action once again.
