The Russia-Uruguay match was shown on a big screen in the media courtyard, offering teachers, staff, and students at HSE the chance to cheer on their chosen side. Exchange students from other countries also joined in. Although the match was somewhat disappointing, the atmosphere in the media courtyard was celebratory and positive. Check out some highlights in the photo report from the event.
The FIFA World Cup is an event that brings together football fans from across the world. Staff at the HSE's Faculty of Communications, Media and Design wanted to offer people at HSE the chance to watch the World Cup and root for the Russian team. The media courtyard was the ideal location. The organizers provided flags, whistles, and face-paint so people could paint the Russian flag on their faces, to ensure the space offered the full fanzone experience. Goalposts were set up in the courtyard to give people the chance to score their own winning goal.
The event continues the HSE tradition of putting on events for staff, students, and their families and friends – in the spirit of HSE Family Day 2018.
'It was great to see people supporting our team through the nailbiting moments in the match. Despite the result, the atmosphere was that of a real HSE event – welcoming, warm, and friendly,' said Viktoria Matvienko, manager at the HSE's School of Integrated Communications, and one of the event's organizers.
The 1/8 final match that saw Russia take on Spain was held on July 1 at 17:00.
