At the beginning of the academic year, HSE launched a crowdfunding platform to support student projects. On November 20th, the first phase of fundraising through this platform will end, so it seems like a good time to sum up the initial results of this campaign in figures and facts.
During the first month, students donated over 4,000 HSEcoins, which means that student projects have already received 800,000 roubles towards implementation - this is more than two-thirds of the total amount allocated for student projects in the latest competition.
First-year students donated their HSEcoins most actively, they have already given over 1500 HSEcoins to various projects. As for the faculties, most HSEcoins were donated by the students of the Faculty of Communications, Media and Design, the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences.
Most HSEcoins were donated on HSE Day, September 13th, when the platform was launched and each student received an HSEcoin.
Four out of thirteen projects created on the HSEcoin platform have collected 100% of their target and are ready to be implemented.
HSE App and HSE Bot raised the necessary funds — 110 HSEcoins (22,000 roubles) — in a record 4.5 hours. This money will help to improve service work, to launch a telegram bot and to develop an Android app.
The HSE Intellectual Club Association collected 30,000 roubles, which is equal to 150 HSEcoins, towards organising their 35th quiz championship, and these HSEcoins will be spent on prizes and medals for the winners.
The student organization ‘Six Voron’ is going to arrange a leisure room in Dormitory 6 with their 145 HSEcoins (29,000 rubles), while the multi-language anti-club #poboltaem? plans to spend a similar amount on tea and cookies for relaxed and comfortable international communication.
It is not necessary to get all 100% of the requested HSEcoins from students in order to proceed with the project: if the project raises over 70% of its stated goal within 30 days, it is recognized as successful and can use these funds.
Therefore, five more initiatives turned out to be successful: HSE Fun Weekend from HSE KVN League, student rap community Vyshka Rhymes and the student magazine all raised over 70% of their target. The festival of West Berlin culture, <61-89 >, organised by the documentary film club OPIA, turned out to be even more successful and collected 83% of their goal.
The editorial office of The Vyshka is the leader in the number of donations: the team collected 2008 HSEcoins (almost 402,000 roubles), which is half of all donated HSEcoins, and although it’s not 100% of their target, this money will be spent on creating a new website for the journal.
However, this is far from the end of the HSEcoin story: students still have the opportunity to support a project they like or even offer their own. There are currently 2 active projects on the platform - a Tartar language speaking club from the TatarIn association and the expansion of the HSE Mafia club. Two more projects failed to get the necessary 70% of funds in a month and withdrew from the crowdfunding campaign.
HSE students still have almost a month to create new projects on the <platform.
On 20th November all unused HSEcoins will be eliminated.
