The Academic Council has confirmed a new draft of the Regulations for Interim and Ongoing Assessments of Students at the Higher School of Economics.

The cafeteria is one of the main points of attraction for students in any HSE building. Now HSE students in the humanities and physics, who study at 21/4 Staraya Basmannaya Ulitsa, also have one to visit. The HSE news service visited the renovated cafeteria to learn whether it’s better than the legendary cafeteria on Myasnitskaya (spoiler alert: it seems so) and to ask the brand chef what meals are worth trying.

Twelve photographs of Moscow landmarks and skyline made in summer by Johnson Chow Chun Shing, an intern at the Faculty of Economic Sciences, are currently on display at Shabolvoka building. Participants of the Autumn School "Modern Trends in Decision Theory" were invited to the gala opening and were the first guests of the exhibition. The Faculty of Economic Sciences' Dean, Oleg Zamulin welcomed the guests, and, together with the International Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis Head Professor Fuad Aleskerov cut the ribbon to open the exhibition.

The work of HSEcoin crowdfunding platform has been extended till November 25. HSE students still have a few days to donate their HSEcoins to student projects or initiate fundraising themselves.

The jury has announced the short-listed nominees for the Golden HSE award. Now, it’s the competition Committee’s turn – it will choose the winners, whose names will be announced on November 27 at the awards ceremony (below are the instructions on how you can get there).

On November 10-11, the finals of the Moscow Capture the Flag interuniversity student competition in information security (M*CTF) took place in Russia. The winning team was Shadow Servants, which included students from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science and MIEM. This is the third year in a row that Shadow Servants has won M*CTF. Their next step is the 2018 Russian CTF Cup, which will take place between November 30 and December 1 at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre.

At the beginning of the academic year, HSE launched a crowdfunding platform to support student projects. On November 20th, the first  phase of fundraising through this platform will end, so it seems like a good time to sum up the initial results of this campaign in figures and facts.

Academic Supervisors of HSE programmes have been awarded bonuses for activities contributing to the university’s development. Active attraction of international students to HSE has become one of the assessment criteria.

In October, Zorica Skakun, from Oxfam GB in Syria, led two workshops on various aspects of violence against women for students of the ‘Population and Development’ Master’s programme. During the workshops, Ms Skakun gave an overview of international frameworks, mandates, and programmes aimed to end violence against women (VAW) and help survivors in various settings, including conflict zones and refugee camps. The students were also offered a group exercise where they brainstormed and presented ideas for pre-project problem analysis and activities to combat VAW in Syria.
