From February 24 – 26, 2016, the IEEE REV'2016 International Conference on Remote Engineering and Virtual Instrumentation took place in Madrid, Spain.

On February 26th, 2016, a student conference ‘Russia and Brazil: as Strategic Partners: Challenges and Opportunities’, dedicated to the problems of economic development of Russia and Brazil as well as the relationship between the two countries, was held at HSE.

Alexandra Sazhina, Lecturer at the Department of Management, HSE in Perm, took part in an international conference, Beyond the Great Beauty: Rescaling Heritage and Tourism. The event took place at the Rimini campus of the University of Bologna, Italy.

On February 4 – 5, 2016, a conference ‘Market economy and rural worlds in Eastern Europe’ organized by the University of Bordeaux’s Department of Sociology and the Emile Durkheim Centre took place in France.

The international symposium, held by SERU (Student Experience in the Research University) International Consortium on January 18, was sponsored by the University of California, Berkeley, the HSE Institute of Education, and Tongji University, which hosted the event. SERU-International Managing Director and IoE leading researcher Igor Chirikov took part in the event, which united over 50 representatives of universities in China, Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Russia and the United States.

Felix Iturriaga, Leading Research Fellow at the International Laboratory of the Intangible-driven Economy, Professor at the University of Valladolid, Spain, is currently visiting HSE Perm.

January 17 - 23, 2016, Alexander Lukin, Head of the School of International Affairs, spoke at some universities and influential research centres in Delhi on an academic trip to India.

The book ‘Wandering Workers. Mores, Behavior, Way of Life, and Political Status of Domestic Russian Labor Migrants’ has been nominated for the Distinguished Scholarly Monograph Award in the American Sociological Association’s Section on Labor and Labor Movements .

Participants of the International Research Project 'Comparative Historical Studies of Empire and Nationalism' Alexander Semyonov and Ivan Sablin took part in the 130th Annual Meeting of American Historical Association that was held on January 7-10 in Atlanta, USA.

Anastasia Preobrazhenskaya, doctoral student of the School of Philology took part in a joint project between HSE, Saint Petersburg State University, the University of Cologne and the University of Warsaw.

On 25 November Deputy Director of HSE St Petersburg Daniil Alexandrov acted as an opponent for a PhD dissertation defence at Tartu University. In many European countries dissertation defence opponents are often colleagues from abroad. To be invited is a sign of respect for an academic and boosts the credit his or her university as a whole.   

The 11th Annual International Conference on Legal Reform in Russia for young researchers and students has taken place in Ekaterinburg. Over 90 students from Russia and other countries took part in the event. The participants discussed topical issues of information, international and environmental law, and many other legal issues throughout the 14 sections of the conference.
