The IT Department’s priority project to create a new MyHSE Services system for HSE won the ‘Project of the Year’ competition (in the category of education), which was organized by Global CIO, a professional association of IT directors in Russia.

On January 18, several university staff members were awarded HSE medals and notes of acknowledgement from the Rector.

On December 13, Russia’s first ever Arabic Language Competition took place in Moscow with the support of the Qatar Embassy. Three students – two from HSE and one from MGIMO – won one-year scholarships at Qatar University for next year.

On November 30 HSE staff members were awarded honor awards of the university at the meeting of the Academic Council.

On November 10-11, the finals of the Moscow Capture the Flag interuniversity student competition in information security (M*CTF) took place in Russia. The winning team was Shadow Servants, which included students from the HSE Faculty of Computer Science and MIEM. This is the third year in a row that Shadow Servants has won M*CTF. Their next step is the 2018 Russian CTF Cup, which will take place between November 30 and December 1 at the Skolkovo Innovation Centre.

Academic Supervisors of HSE programmes have been awarded bonuses for activities contributing to the university’s development. Active attraction of international students to HSE has become one of the assessment criteria.

On October 22, some university staff members were awarded HSE medals and notes of acknowledgement from the Rector.

Two students from the ‘Financial Technologies and Data Analysis’ master's programme, Nikita Churkin and Dmitry Simakov, took second place  and won 100,000 rupees (approximately 100,000 rubles) at the WNS Analytics Wizard international hackathon 2018, held on September 14-16. The competition was organised by the Indian platform Analytics Vidhuya (similar to the American Kaggle).

A team made up of master’s students from the 'Law in International Trade, Finance and Economic Integration' programme has made it into the top ten teams at the international round of the ELSA Moot Court Competition in WTO Law, held in Geneva, Switzerland, from June 19th-24th, 2018.

Timothy Frye, Academic Supervisor of the International Center for the Study of Institutions and Development, received the ‘Acknowledgement Medal’ for active participation in the activity of HSE international laboratories. 

HSE University has maintained its leading position in the ranking compiled by the Russian Council for International Affairs. The ranking evaluated the websites of 65 Russian universities. HSE was awarded 104 points out of 108, increasing its position by 11 points on last year. HSE's closest rival ranked a further 17 points behind, which is a larger gap than previously.

The Higher School of Economics has been awarded the Communications Lab Experiment prize and won second place in the awards for the second year running.
