Eastern European history shows that in the majority of post-Soviet countries, where lustration was carried out in one form or another, the situation with corruption is now considerably better than in those countries where lustration was not carried out. But what we see in Slovenia is, in fact, an clear deviation from this pattern. The Slovenia phenomenon has been analysed in the article ‘Fighting Corruption: The Slovenian Phenomenon’ by Yuliy  Nisnevich, Professor at the School of Political Science, Academic Supervisor of the Laboratory for Anti-Corruption and Heather Stetten, independent researcher (USA).

HSE would like to congratulate Udara Peiris, Assistant Professor at ICEF on having his article ‘Collateral and the Efficiency of Monetary Policy’ accepted for publication in the international peer-reviewed journal ‘Economic Theory’.  The article was coauthored by Alexandros Vardoulakis, Economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System.

‘Factors Affecting the Quality of Engineering Education in the Four Largest Emerging Economies’, an article co-authored by Isak Froumin,Martin Carnoy and Prashant Loyalka, was published in the academic journal Higher Education. The article focuses on assessing the evolving capacity of higher education systems in BRIC countries with respect to producing qualified engineering graduates.

Last year the HSE joined Coursera, the world's largest international educational website. Today the HSE offers a number of open online courses in economics as well as courses in applied mathematics, psychology, and courses at the intersection of these disciplines designed by HSE leading professors. Sergey Stepanov, Assistant Professor at ICEF and the Faculty of Economics, shared his expectations of the new online course he is currently working on in the May issue of the HSE Look.
