HSE University to Take Action on Grade Inflation
HSE University’s administration is determined to prevent the lowering of grading standards for students’ academic performance. Teachers will be receiving new grading guidelines in the next two weeks. The proposed grading criteria will become mandatory for all courses. Other measures are planned as well. The list of such measures was discussed by the Rector’s Council on June 15.

MIEM Research Professor Viktor Maslov Receives ‘Global Energy’ Prize
The Global Energy Association awards outstanding Russian scholars for their contributions to the development of the national power engineering industry on their professional holiday – national Power Engineers’ Day. Professor Viktor Maslov, a RAS member, Doctor of Sciences (Physics and Math), and MIEM Research Professor, has become the first winner of the Honorary Diploma from the Association ‘for his fundamental contributions to upholding nuclear power safety’.
HSE Staff Members Awarded Status of Tenured Professor
On June 22, several HSE lecturers and staff members were awarded the status of Tenured Professor at a meeting of HSE Academic Council. Sixteen HSE staff members became Distinguished Professors at the Higher School of Economics for the first time.
‘HSE Has Been Innovative from the Start’

Altbach began to study education in his youth because he believed it was a key factor to bring about change in society. This year winner of the respected Fields medal Andrey Okounkov became the new head of HSE’s International Laboratory of Representation Theory and Mathematical Physics. On September 28th 2011, Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation, signed an executive order ‘Approval of the list of members of the Public chamber of the Russian Federation’. As part of this, Yaroslav Kuzminov, Rector of the Higher School of Economics, became a member of the public chamber.
