More than 70% to 80% of the calories we consume are derived from grain products. However, the global grain market today is dominated by a small group of traders. The HSE International BRICS Competition Law and Policy Centre has proposed establishing an intergovernmental BRICS platform on fair competition to serve as a new mechanism for coordinating the efforts of antimonopoly authorities in regulating global markets. HSE University-St Petersburg and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi), a leading Indian university, have agreed to launch joint research projects in the field of social, political studies, humanities, and data analysis for master's students. On the Russian side, this work will be coordinated by the HSE St Petersburg School of Social Sciences.
On January 30, St Petersburg hosted the International Scientific Conference 'Russia and Oceania: New Challenges and Prospects'. The event was timed to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and the Republic of Fiji.
Theoretical physicists from Russia and Brazil are working together on a theory that describes novel superconducting materials with potentially high critical temperatures. The theory can explain many properties of superconductors with non-trivial topological properties, as well as of those with multiple condensates. A school focusing on the digitalisation of public administration for civil servants from African countries was held in Moscow in December 2023. The school proved the high demand for Russian training programmes — representatives of 23 countries and 3 international organisations received certificates following advanced training.
A team from HSE University's Faculty of Urban and Regional Development took part in the Global Mayor’s Forum—a global event in urban development. Held in December 2023 in Guangzhou (PRC), the largest congress of urban planners brought together more than 800 guests from 65 cities and 37 countries, as well as nine international organisations.
In December, the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge and the HSE AI Research Centre participated in UNCTAD eWeek to discuss the future of the emerging digital economy. One of the topics discussed during the conference was artificial intelligence and its applications in driving the digital transformation of industry sectors. The session was co-organised by HSE University.
On December 15, the Second Sino-Russian Economic Cooperation Workshop–Youth Forum took place online. The event was organised jointly by HSE University and the Shanghai University School of Economics. On November 24–25, 2023, the 12th ICEF-CInSt International Finance Conference took place in Moscow. The III Young Scientists Congress took place in the Sirius Science and Art Park on November 28–30, 2023. On the first day of the forum, a discussion was held on the tools and opportunities for engaging international early-career researchers in Russian science.
