HSE’s 'Foresight and STI Governance' among Top Russian Journals in Scopus' Research and Innovation Rankings

At the beginning of June, SCImago Journal and Country Rank announced its 2015 rankings of journals indexed in the international academic citation database Scopus. Foresight and STI Governance, a journal published by the Higher School of Economics, placed 115 in the new ranking. Less than three years ago, the journal placed into the second quartile in the Business, Management and Accounting (miscellaneous) ranking, becoming the first Russian publication to rank in this category. In addition, Foresight was among the top-ten best Russian journals in the social sciences and humanities, according to the Scopus ranking.

Three HSE Journals to Be Indexed by Scopus

Three HSE journals — Public Administration Issues (Voprosy Gosudarstvennogo i Munitsypal’nogo Upravleniya), Psychology. Journal of the Higher School of Economics (Psychologiya. Zhurnal Vysshey Shkoly Economiki) and The Russian Sociological Review (Sociologicheskoye Obozreniye) — are to be indexed by Scopus. The editorial boards of these journals have already been officially notified by Elsevier.

New Book Explores Foresight in Innovation Policy and Management

Policymakers are increasingly turning to foresight techniques for guidance when addressing the wide array of problems and challenges arising in their work. A new book co-edited by Leonid Gokhberg, Dirk Meissner, and Alexander Sokolov from the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge (ISSEK), attempts to add another dimension – namely, opportunities – that can come from proper application of foresight techniques.  Deploying Foresight for Policy and Strategy Makers: Creating Opportunities Through Public Policies and Corporate Strategies in Science, Technology and Innovation (Springer, 2016) features essays by more than a dozen scholars on various aspects of foresight application in today’s policy environment.

Book by Oleg Khlevniuk Recognized by Pushkin House, London

Stalin: New Biography of a Dictator (Yale) by Oleg Khlevniuk (translated by Nora Favorov) has received the second prize of Pushkin House (UK), for the best Russian book in translation. The award, supported by Waterstones and Douglas Smith & Stephanie Ellis-Smith, supports the best non-fiction writing on the Russian-speaking world published for the first time in English in the previous year.

Mapping Social Mechanisms in a Civilized Public Sphere

On March 16, Apostolis Papakostas, Professor of Sociology at Södertörn University in Stockholm, Sweden gave a presentation of his book ‘Civilizing the Public Sphere: Distrust, Trust and Corruption’ at the HSE Laboratory for Comparative Social Research. HSE Scholar Publishes Article in the European Sociological Review

An article by Director of the Centre for Culture of Sociology and Anthropology of Education (CCSAE), Dmitry Kurakin has been published in Oxford University Press’s leading international sociology journal the European Sociological Review. Dr. Kurakin co-wrote the article Horizontal and 'Vertical Gender Segregation in Russia — Changes upon Labour Market Entry before and after the Collapse of the Soviet Regime' with fellow researchers at the European University Institute on the eduLIFE project.

St. Petersburg’s Gastronomic Brand Goes International

Scholars at HSE St. Petersburg have published their research in a new monograph for international tourism professionals. Dr. Valery Gordin, Deputy Director of HSE St. Petersburg and Head of the Laboratory of Cultural Economics, together with Dr. Julia Trabskaya, Leading Research Fellow at Laboratory of Cultural Economics, authored a chapter for a book entitled ‘Tourism Management, Marketing, and Development. Performance, Strategies, and Sustainability’. Palgrave Macmillan, a leading global publisher, issued this volume in December 2015.
