Germany And Russia: Innovation Development

On July 11-th, the three day Russian-German seminar ‘S&T and Innovation Development’ started at HSE. The organizers of the event are the Institute for Statistical studies and Economics of knowledge (ISSEK, HSE) and the Fraunhofer Institute for systems and innovation research (ISI, Germany).

On May 23rd the international symposium ‘Twenty Years: Political and Economic Evolution in Post-communist Europe’ started at the HSE. The event was organized by the Higher School of Economics with the support of the Liberal Mission foundation and the Friedrich Naumann foundation.

Equal Opportunities and the ‘Disinterested Government’

On October 4th a special session of the Political Economy research seminar took place at the HSE Faculty of Economics. Yang Yao, Deputy Dean of the National School of Development and Professor at the Center for Economic Research, Beijing University, spoke about ‘Equality, the Disinterested Government, and Economic Growth: The Case of China’.

'Political Correctness Constrains Researchers'

From July 26th - 30th the VIII International Council for Central and East European Studies (ICCEES) Congress took place in Stockholm. The event takes place once every five years and brings together researchers from Russia and East Europe. This time 14 teachers and researchers from the HSE took part in the Congress, the largest delegation from one institution at the forum. Some participants of the Congress told us about the event.

Research Seminar of the HSE Department of Banking

On February 15th Zuzana Fungáčová, a member of BOFIT —Bank of Finland Institute for Economies in Transition, Helsinki, Finland, presented her reports entitled ‘Market Power in the Russian Banking Industry’and ‘Determinants of bank interest margins in Russia:Does bank ownership matter?’ as part of a research seminar of the HSE Department of Banking. Proceedings of the First International Workshop on Cognitonics

Proceedings of the First International Workshop on Cognitonics were published as part of the proceedings of the International Multiconference ‘Information Society 2009’ . Workshop Co-Chair was Vladimir Fomichev, PhD, Professor of the HSE Faculty of Business Informatics Department of Innovations and Business in Information Technologies.

Games of Social Interactions

On February 1st a research seminar of the HSE International College of Economics and Finance took place. Shlomo Weber, Southern Methodist University, USA, presented his report on ‘Games of Social Interactions with Local and Global Externalities’ at the seminar. You can watch a video of the event here.

On December 1st a seminar on ‘Trends in Higher Education Research’took place at the HSE. It was organized by the HSE Institute for the Development of Education, Dmitry Zimin’s ‘Dynasty’Foundation and the Russian Economic School. Professor Philip Altbach, Director of the Center for International Higher Education (CIHE), Boston College (USA), gave a lecture at the seminar. We have published a video of the event.
