Online Project Fair Gets New Functions

Before the launch of the Project Fair app for Android, its version on the HSE University website got some new functions: subscription to notifications, an English version, and a more convenient interface for project leaders.

Online Project Fair Gets New Functions

Project Fair website has received significant updates. ‘There have been about fifteen or more upgrades of varying levels of complexity – from adding icons that indicate the project type, to creating an  English version of the entire fair,’ said Dmitry Koptyubenko, HSE Director for Online Media.

In 2019, the website team collected feedback on how the service might be improved. The Academic Council committee requested an English version, and the Student Council asked for email notifications. Most of the feedback came from colleagues from the Degree Programmes Department, which is the Project Fair’s main customer.

The English version of the Fair is now ready for its first project: technically, everything is up and running, and now it’s time to inform users about what it can do, says Dmitry. He noted that some upgrades are not visible at first glance, but might be helpful, such as the new multiple-choice filtering function for viewing academic programmes.

For students, the main innovation is, of course, the ability to receive notifications. For project leaders, an easier-to-use interface for selecting project participation applications has been introduced. It is planned to refactor certain outdated technical components of the service, which will ultimately speed up the work of the online service and be helpful to the users.

Project-based learning has been an essential component of HSE’s university-wide educational requirements since it was included in HSE University’s standards for all undergraduate students in 2014. Its terms and workload are provided by syllabi of each specific programme. Projects may attract students from different years of study and programmes, depending on its requirements. A project can be initiated by any staff member of any HSE department who states the need for the project and submits an application.
