Маринакис Космас, доцент Международного института экономики и финансов (Москва)
НОМИНАЦИЯ «Успех педагога»
доцент Международного института экономики и финансов; доцент Департамента теоретической экономики факультета экономических наук
Kosmas Marinakis, Ph.D., has been employed by the HSE as an Assistant Professor of Economics (tenure track) since September 2012. Currently he teaches at ICEF and the Faculty of Economic Sciences. Before that Kosmas held academic positions in the US and Cyprus.
He received his Bachelor degree in Athens University of Economics and Business (Greece, 2002) and continued his studies in the USA: MSc Economics (Minor in Statistics), North Carolina State University (USA, 2004). In 2008, he got Ph.D. in Economics (North Carolina State University, USA).
At ICEF, Kosmas Marinakis is a lecturer for Industrial Economics (4th year) and for Microeconomics (2nd year) at the Faculty of Economic Sciences. For Kosmas, managing a course is like running a small company. He exerts significant effort to make the lectures interesting and to connect them to the real world with several real life examples and case studies.
Students appreciate Kosmas’ direct style of teaching, the quality of lectures, the real-life economic stories that make the theory easier to understand, and his way of simplifying the hard parts of the material. Students often mention his excellent sense of humor and his skill to make classes interactive and interesting. Kosmas’ philosophy is that HSE students are the best and they should be treated as such. His courses are taught in a strictly professional and disciplined environment. He dedicates time to inspire work ethics to his students, so they will be well prepared to become top professionals in their sphere once they graduate. He takes a hard line on cheating. Not surprisingly, for the last 3 years he has been continuously elected by the students as the best teacher. In 2014 he was a research advisor to the student who won in research contest for presenting the best paper in Economics.
Kosmas has developed a set of excellent study materials for the students and detailed guidelines for the course personnel for both of his courses at ICEF and the Faculty of Economic Sciences. He also maintains a state-of-the-art website for his courses, where students can find everything they need for the course in one place.
To share his great experience and communications skills Kosmas developed an innovative short course - Public Speaking Seminar Series. The course was designed to teach students the art of public speaking. Kosmas shares the secrets, gives tips, provides examples, develops cases, gives do's and don’ts of how to present work successfully in front of an audience. The course is increasing in popularity and last year more than 320 HSE students received a certificate of attendance for completing the short course.
We know that Kosmas has a considerate attitude to the students. He is ready to share his experience and provide guidance on the courses he is teaching. Students can make an online appointment to visit his office hours.
Kosmas Marinakis is ready to share his experience with colleagues. His presentations at the ICEF events, e.g. ICEF Teaching Day are always interesting and thought - provoking. He has spoken both about the challenges that university teachers face today and his own approach to marking student papers and giving feedback. At the MSc programme, Kosmas coordinates the work (exam tasks development, marking scheme) of the HSE MSc Olympics for those who apply to the ICEF «Financial Economics» MSc programme.
His teaching success is proved easily – full lecture room! For last 4 years his elective course on Industrial Economics at ICEF has grown from 18 to 127 students. Each year nearly 400 young economists listen to his Microeconomics lectures with delight and try not to miss any. Students say that Kosmas Marinakis is a great teacher and a charismatic person who is able to inspire and motivate to study hard. He definetely helped some of them to start loving Economics and understand why they decided to be economists! Such evaluation of Kosmas’ efforts is a true merit! We wish him good luck!

I was a student in Industrial Economics class. Even though it is not a field of my particular interest, I enjoyed every one of professor's lectures. His ability to motivate and make a class interesting is second to none. Not only he presents the material in a way it is fascinating, but also professor facilitates and encourages discussion within the class, what in my opinion makes the whole process of learning even more beneficial and enjoyable. Without a doubt, I would recommend taking his class to anyone who even remotely interested in economics.
To sum up, I think professor deserves to win because he raises the standard of teaching to new heights.

I will always keep your lectures and jokes in my memory :)
I think Kosmas is the best candidate for a Golden Vyshka award.

I really liked that he is not jut giving lectures, but actually involves students into the conversation, teaching them not only the Economics, but how to think and to protect their opinion. His lectures were very clear, fun and the theory was supported with real life examples.
However, in addition to his experience and knowledge, I would like to mention his personal qualities too. He knows when to be both strict or supportive to the students and his love to the subject and teaching actually motivated me and many of my classmates to go beyond the limits.
I think that he truly deserves this award.
Later I attended the 3-Seminar Series of Public Speaking. On those seminars Kosmas Marinakis taught the audience how to create presentations, speak in public. He emphasize all things that require more attention. He is interested in his profession, thoroughly prepares for each lecture and inspires students to study his subject. Attendance was very high on all his lectures and seminars. For me, he is the best example of how to work with the audience.
I am sure, that Kosmas is very talented speaker and teacher. So, he really deserves the award he is nominated for!

2. He also was a lecturer at subject Industrial Economics. His lectures were interesting and I saw that Kosmas always tried to do his best. I think he exceeded expectations of many students and that motivated them to work hard at his subject. Therefore I am certain that among lecturers at ICEF he is one of the best.
Kosmas, good luck! I believe that you are the person who have to win this nomination.

Best of luck, Kosmas!
His knowledge of Industrial Economics, combined with great public speaking skill (and also good sense of humor) made learning that subject a sheer pleasure. The greatest feature of the course, in my opinion, was that for every piece of theory, there was a case or an example from real life.
Knowledge and understanding of the subject, however, were not the only things me and my classmates learned. Kosmas' commitment to ethics and discipline is also valuable, and definitely changes the academia for the better.
To sum it up, "10/10 would recommend".
1. He is excellent at keeping the public's attention in class. I can't remember any case of students acting naughty or talking at his lecture. He always created the right mood in class, which made us focus and concentrate on the subject.
2. He created a great curriculum. The structure of his lectures is so thoughtful and useful - there is no waste, not a single word that could mislead or cause unnecessary questions. Unfortunately, there are many lecturers at ICEF, whose classes leave students with a mess in their heads, causing more questions than giving actual knowledge. Luckily, Kosmas is not one of them.
3. It may sound funny, but his lectures are saving students' money:) It's not a secret that many of ICEF students have to constantly study with tutors, even if they visit all the lectures and seminars. The structure of the courses is often so confused, that it is impossible for an average student to cope with the curriculum without the help of extra paid tutors. And their services are sooo costly!
But Kosmas explains every single conception of Industrial Economics so clearly, that there is no need in external help. A student can feel safe with such a great professor: all that he needs to do is to listen carefully and practice at the seminars (which are also very useful, by the way). As a result - all students get high-quality knowledge without wasting parents' money.
I really hope that his approach to study will be rewarded by our beloved university. Kosmas makes a great impact on students, and all our support shows how we value him.
Kosmas, thank you for being with us, we all wish you good luck!
Sergey Tsoy, ICEF graduate, 2013
Kosmas, thank you for very interesting and understandable module of microeconomics, it was really how it has to be like! Best wishes!
I am proud to have been one of Kosmas' students and I am confident that he deserves the award he is nominated for. Wish you all the best, Professor!
Oleg Rychnev, graduate of the Faculty of Economics (2016)
Good luck, Kosmas!
I would like to wish Kosmas Marinakis all the best in his life and job. He deserves this award!
Thank you
Angela Ivanova, faculty of economics, HSE-Moscow
I would like to see more teachers like Kosmas in this university, because he is a professional and he is very good at teaching.
I am very thankful for the experience which I got during his lectures. Basics of the game theory and price discrimination will stay with me unlike other parts of the 4 module course.
I wish the other lecturers teaching at HSE became a bit more like Kosmas. Being a wonderful person and teacher, he truly deserves the Golden Vyshka award!
P.S. The only lecturer whose lessons I've never skipped.
I was so surprised when Prof. Marinakis in a such a simple and attractive manner unveiled the secrets of successful public speech - the knowledge that not every speaker wants to share: he has taught us how not to afraid of speaking and to turn every presentation to a mini-performance as he has brilliantly shown himself. Prof. Marinakis has explained the theory in very clear and passionate way, and what is the most important, inspired me, a very shy person, to start working hard.
This is the most priceless result - not to force people to study, but to make them fall in love into what they are trying to learn and understand and to wake up their desire to improve themselves.
The only thing I regret is that Prof. Marinakis has lectures only at the ICEF: I hope that one day he will reveal miracles of microeconomics to students also at the faculty of economics!
Students value his professional attitude and quality of lectures, his ability to make classes interactive and engaging, and also his fantastic sense of humor. Kosmas truly cares about students, making an enormous effort to keep course material understandable and interesting, and to inspire students to study economics outside university course.
Without any doubt he is the one who totally deserves this award.
Побольше бы таких преподавателей! И вся учеба была бы в радость.
I wholeheartedly endorse his nomination for the award.

At one time I was on the exam of this professor - as an observer - thus I saw how all students were interested and not afraid of the exam, can suppouse that it was due to Kosmas Marinakis lessons.
Thus all the lessons with this professor are very useful.
Hope the support of the students will help him to take this award!
Wish all the best for you, Kosmas!

Finally, I found my way to return to university in 2005, I majored in Political Science with a Law & Justice curriculum. My International Relations professor told my class that if we intend to understand in the field of international relations, we had to take an economics course. Political Science did not have all the answers that I was looking for in society. So I declared a minor in economics and began the five course sequence, the next semester. This first class in economics was almost my last, due to the lack of quality in the teacher. Thank goodness the next class in microeconomics had a young Greek graduate student, teaching in his last summer with a freshly minted PhD in Economics from NCSU. I finally began to understand homo economicus.
Kos, as many of us referred to him, opened our eyes as students to the world of economics. He did not just teach the next paragraph from the book. He was homo economicus, the economic man, sharing real world examples with theoretical overlays explaining the economic phenomenon. His lectures were magical, captivating his students like a rock star. He would engage each student as he taught the entire class. You could see him gaze across the lecture hall as if to spot every sheep in his flock and to know he had our individual and collective attentions.
One morning, with an exam coming up, Kos overheard some of us planning on a study session to take place that evening in the near by nine story research library. Kos had no idea how long we would be working on material for the class, and he had absolutely no idea where in the nine story building we would be located. It was just after 11pm and we just happened to be near the seventh floor elevator, and guess who walked out to see if we were on the seventh floor? He had hunted us down on each floor going up and finally found us. Kos stepped into the study room complete with lecture board and took command of our study group asking us where we had just left off and what areas were we having problems in the material for the exam. All of us were blown away! I have never seen such passion to teach, passion for his students to succeed, passion to engage those in his life! This was the economic man, Kosmas Marinakis!
One last thing to share with you all and this gets to the bottom of why Kos is special. And why HSE is very fortunate. One day after class, I was the last out as usual, Kos and I would have extemporaneous conversation many of days. But this one day, he had been exceptionally brilliant in his lecture. I told him that I wished to tell him something. I explained to him that somewhere in his past life, he had a teacher that touched him, a teacher that opened up a door of opportunity for him to walk through and discover a world he had never seen. A teacher that shared a key to unlock the potential within Kos to become a great teacher. Kos stood silent and could only look at me as if he was looking at a ghost and he said, "How do you know this?" It was as if I could see into his soul.
I told him it was the way he looked at his students, Kos teaches with his eyes. He communicates with his students by teaching into their souls, by gazing directly at them, both individually and collectively. I had a teacher like him thirty years earlier, much the way Kos had a similar teacher in his life, they all would look out across the lecture hall and know instinctively, whether any of their flock was lost. If so, then both Kos and my old mentor, would back up and regroup the herd, in order to move forward. They all had this incredible ability to captivate the class. This is the key to teaching small and large groups, Kos is a master at this technique, which is vital to students seeking to be exceptional in their academics. For students to have Kosmas Marinakis as a teacher, they are fortunate, to have him teach economics to them is an exceptional experience.
Thanks in part to Kos, I graduated with an undergraduate BA magna cum laude Political Science (Law & Justice with theory emphasis) with minor in Economics in 2010 from the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA) and Poole College of Management (PCoM) at NCSU, Raleigh, NC, with honors in a national political science honors association and international economics honors association. Then I earned my Master of Economics degree from PCoM-NCSU and Graduate Certificate in Public Policy from the Public Administration program at SPIA-NCSU, both in 2013.
I am proud to call Kos a friend, mentor, and my professor.

Kosmas is one of the most exciting professors at ICEF. His lectures on Industrial Economics were one of the most interactive and interesting in the whole Bachelor course. It was really insightful to attend the course. One of the most important point is that Kosmas not only manages to keep audience interested in the subject but also does it in a very detailed, clear and professional way, allowing students to truly enjoy the learning process.
I highly appreciate the fact, that Dr. Marinakis was nominated and I think he has all the rights to win the award!
First of all, course structure was very interesting, well structured and consistent. Before each exam we were explained in detail what material would be examined. What I especially want to note is that teacher did not assume that everyone truly understand previously studied material, but he always managed to quickly and clearly explain even some basic facts, so that no one was lost.
Secondly, I would like to thank professor for being a good speaker. All the lectures were enjoyable and I have never ever had a desire to check my phone or talk to a friend. There always was a perfect silent in the classroom and everyone listened carefully. It is worth noticing that Kosmas has a great sense of humor. His jokes together with some relevant stories and examples helped to understand and remember course material much easier.
Also, I want to mention that prof. Marinakis found time to educate us. He gave some very valuable life tips that I try to follow. In general, Kosmas is very open and friendly to all the students and he helped many of us by advice or action.
I consider Kosmas Marinakis to be one of the best lecturer at ICEF and I am very grateful to Professor for all he has done. I think that he truly deserves this award.
I would like to point out his dedication, passion and interest in the subject he is teaching. Actually not only in his subject, but the whole learning process, the desire to give students who really want this the chance to know more not just about Economics, but about public speaking or how to write a diploma paper or about politics. He is a true teacher with the desire to share knowledge.
The most respectful thing is that even he is a strict teacher, he requires no less from us than he does himself.
His well-thought lectures, bright examples from real life, his attitude towards students (the most representative case was when on our first exam he came to each and every one of the students in several rooms (!) to ask how one is doing on the exam and wish everyone luck) made me want to understand the subject better and deeper. With all responsibility I can say that he is the first teacher who made me really interested in this section of Economics.
Great thanks to Dr. Marinakis and I hope he will win the award because he most honestly deserves it.
I am sincerely proud to be his student at ICEF. During the last four years I have been thinking about the possible ways of teaching that would make the studies useful and interesting at the same, that would make a student feel that by learning this subject he is developing not only in academic, but in a personal way as well. I believe that every subject can make a contribution to developing your own vision of the world, can help you analyse the world in different ways. I think that the way Kosmas is teaching this subject does exactly this - it makes you more professional on one hand, but also makes you think deeper than you are used you, helps you realize the world organisation. I am surely agree with all the words about his excellent presentation and communication skills, his clear subject structure and high level of proficiency and academic ethics.
He is certainly the one to win this competition!
It is also a pleasure to work under Kosmas' supervision thanks to the very clear instructions that he provides his assistants with.
I strongly believe that Kosmas is the right person for the Golden Vyshka.
Alexey Mikhaylov (Tutor at ICEF)
Kosmas is truly one of the most "engaged" professors in HSE. His lectures on Industrial Economics are probably the only ones that keep me interested from the very beginning till the end. Kosmas always stays connected with the audience, he is always able to explain difficult things in an easy way. I've never seen any professor at HSE, who was so much eager to make students get the understanding of the subject.
I highly appreciate the fact, that Dr. Marinakis teaches students to think, rather than just memorize the material.
Kosmas is a strict teacher, but you always feel that he truly wants to help you and is always ready to give a needed advise, I think that it proves that professor Marinakis deserves the award!
It was a pleasure to attend Kosmas' lectures. Professor Marinakis has an important quality for any lecturer: he knows how to develop a true interest to his subject. A lot of material was explained on the example of real-life cases, which made it easier to understand the underlying theory. But what is more important is that professor Marinakis was also giving us pieces of advice apart from our studies. Any discussion with our open-minded professor was a real pleasure, and I would like to thank Kosmas for his lectures and wish a good luck in this competition!
By "what" aspect I mean the contecst of tle lectures: the speach and the presentations. This was done brilliantly! The lectures were very understandable, even for those, whose english or math skills are mediocre. The information was presented in the way that everyone coul understand it. And, what is very nice too, we had anought time to copy all the information from slides we need (by the way, the slides were composed very good and they were really comfortable to use!) and, what is incredibly important too, we had an opportunity to ask questions and all our questions were answered.
And by "how" aspect I mean the atmosphere of the lectures and the attitude and way of teeching of Dr. Marinakis. This was wonderful too. I allways attended the lecture wis pleasure - this is something I really appreciate! The atmosphere was allvays positive, respectful and was to work hard and to learn new information. I didn't get tired or bored in the middle of the lecture, I hadn't any incentive to toch my phone and the thoughts like "oh God when finisshes it?" never came to my mind. This was due to hard work of Dr. Marinakis because he allways tried to make his subject interesting for us and he looked carefully for the mood of the audiens due to make a joke or give us funny story tte time it was needed.
And, what is extremely important too, Dr. Marinakis let us enter the lecture after its start. This was saving me from starvation :)
So I suppose that Dr. Marinakis is the person who is really worthi of this award!
Moreover, it is clear that he is very interested in his subjects and also wants us to become interested in them. Kosmas Marinakis is ready to provide the students with the best studying conditions. After many conversations with the administration he got the best lecture room, what again proves the fact that he cares about the students.
I wish professor Marinakis good luck in this competition as he deserves the award for his achievements !
I've heard different stories and rumors about professor Marinakis since the beginning of my studies at ICEF and he seemed pretty strict and a bit crazy teacher to me according to those. However, I personally met him only on my 3rd year at his Public Speaking lecture, and was highly impressed with his style of teaching, his confidence, his manner of presenting the material, interaction with students, and good sense of humor.
On my 4th year Industrial Organization class was one of the choice courses taught by Kosmas and the introduction lecture just didn't leave a chance to other courses. I can truly say that his lectures were the most enjoyable throughout my whole studies at ICEF and I never even thought of skipping one. At some point of studying economics I really had a doubt whether it has a real, practical meaning in life. Though professor Marinakis showed us how the theory coincides with practice, he had a real-life example for literally everything he was talking about on his lectures.
Kosmas also really helped me with my struggles during submission of the documents for the Ph.D. program. He helped me to choose the range of universities that were suitable for me, worked with me on my statement of purpose and supported my application with his impactful recommendation letters (well, I haven't seen it, but judging by the fact that I ended up in a pretty good school in the States, it was pretty awesome). And I know, he cares about every student that needs his help or advice.
And the last thing I wanted to mention is that he is always open to criticism and willing to take actions for improvement. Despite the general ICEF course evaluations, he created his own that he gave us after the end of the course so we could express our concerns and wishes directly to him. I would like to thank him for being such a good teacher and mentor, and I believe he really affected some of my lifetime decisions!
Congratulations, Kosmas!
The first module of this year was really interesting and amazing, not so easy but we can't study without any obstacles and mistakes. It was such fabulous because we had an incredible lector - Dr Marinakis. All students looked forward to his class and his lectures always had perfect attendance. He taught us to love the economic science and had shown that it is beautiful. In my opinion, the way of his teaching is the best example of how the material should be presented and of the connection with audience. I also should mention that every single student was included in a process and enjoyed it!
It was a pleasure to be his student! Thank you a lot, Kosmas! Thank you for inspiring students to be good at the subject!
I hope that Dr Marinakis will win this award and I wish him good luck!
Dr. Marinakis always shows a professional behaviour and treats people very respectfully. Moreover, he is a very inspirational and friendly person.
One more detail: during the October exam on the Industrial Economics professor Marinakis came to every single student (there were more than 100 students) and personally wished everyone good luck!
I would like to thank professor Marinakis for his fantastic course, hope he will win because he definitely deserves this award!
To be honest, during first 3 years on the faculty I always doubted whether I am trully interested in what I am doing and is it the right path for me. The 4th year changed my attitude to studies drammatically. Since the very first lecture I was fascinated by his enthusiasm and energy, personal attractiveness and positive attitude towards students. At the same time Kosmas is demanding and exceptionally responsible: he practices individual approach to each student (even after 2 years he could memorize me and tell that I was good enough in IE), prepares thoroghly the lecture materials which make study process much easier and is always ready to give examples and give as many details as you need to understand the issue. Nowadays when all the study guides and other supporting materials are prepared by his own initiative I cannot imagine how one might not be good in IE or not enjoy this course.
To my mind, he was the only teacher at ICEF whose lectures were not only visited by all the students, but also these lectures were visited with pleasure. I was a tutor for 1st year students during my last year at ICEF and the first thing I told them when they asked me about the specialization they have to choose was "you should choose one which will allow you to visit IE course".
What is more, my personal positive memories about Kosmas are not limited by the IE course. I also visited his lectures on Public Speaking, which every year attracted a lot of students too. As I understand these are not only students and alumnies of ICEF or Economics. I was studying Management when I decided to participate in that series of lectures and I proposed my mates and friends to join me, and they were extremely glad after all to grasp that chance.
It my sound overly subjective or personal, but I believe any interaction with Kosmas is a great pleasure, since he doesn't avoid communication with students, doesn't seem distant or overly severe, so you feel free to ask questions no matter how stupid they may seem. This is what makes you feel you can learn whatever you want, makes you want to research some questions by your own and undestand that economics is not merely theory, but may be applied to everyday life. All these is possible when your teacher is enthusiastic about what he is doing and considers teaching not just as work but as the way to impact this world. This is all definitely about Kosmas and I believe he deserves this award.
I am glad I have a chance to say thank you for all you are doing for students.
Looking foreward for ICEF alumni meeting, hope to see you where.
I wish Professor Marinakis all the best and believe that he is the person who deserves the Golden Vyshka award for achievement in economic education!
To sum it up, I'd like to add that in my humble opinion Mr.Marinakis absolutely deserves this nomination and I really hope that he receives it!
Kosmas, wish you good luck!!!
What amazes me most of all, is the professionalism of Professor Marinakis in everything he does: in his classes, Public Speaking seminars, in supervising papers, and in anything else he has to do. To me Professor Marinakis is the best professor of all times! Moreover, I think his values, professionalism and high requirements to students are aligned with those of HSE.
Everything Professor Marinakis has done for his students and for the university is remarkable and he is a totally worthy winner of this award!
I was not the most diligent of students, but Dr. Marinakis was always able to capture my full attention. His lectures were as interesting as they were insightful. Right now I'm doing my Masters and the knowledge acquired in Industrial Economics course helps me in surprising ways.
I'm definitely not the best compliment-writer, but I can say in all honesty that professor Marinakis is one of the few people (in academic world or otherwise) that I would like to cross the pathes with again.
I am defenitely sure that he deserves to win this nomination!
Good luck!
I have been a student of Kosmas and then was lucky to work with him as an assistant. His lectures and very professional way of teaching make students very involved in the studying. What I liked the most is that all theories and models he supports by cases in real life-and you understand more how things around you interact. You understand what is behind those models in class-it is economics in your everyday life. I suppose that for a professional teacher this ability to catch student's interest is essential and it is exactly what Kosmas does. He inspires us to learn more. Moreover, his materials are very helpful, clear and easy to use, so students in most cases have no problems with studies. Now, two years later I even remember some slides and his important comments. Also, it was great to get his experience, attending lectures of public speaking. Working with Kosmas as an assistant I faced with a very organized way of cooperation with the team and was not surprised at all as I knew who was the key person in it.:)
I am very happy that I was a student and an assistant of Kosmas, and am sure that he has a talent of teaching, he loves what he does and wants people to love it too and he succeed in it. It was a great pleasure to get such experience and knowledge.
Thank you very much, professor!
My congratulations and wishes of good luck!
I very much appreciate the knowledge, experience and advice that Kosmas has shared with me.
Alexey Ostapchuk (Assistant Lecturer, ICEF BSc 2011)
Thank you a lot, Kosmas!!! Good luck!!!
Besides being passionate to teaching I would like to note that Kosmas is very inspirational, positive and friendly person. He treats students as equals. Professor Marinakis verified my wish to pursue a PhD in Economics with his unique style of teaching and an original view at research being the things I would want to inherit.
I am sure that Dr Marinakis will win the award and I wish him good luck!
I have attended his seminars in Public Speaking and Microeconomics lectures. All the knowledge he shares is valuable and extremely applicable in real life. He is such kind of person who leads by his own example, always being supportive and competent. Also he has a unique ability of rising love and curiosity for the subjects he teaches.
I believe that presenting this award will be the best profit and utility maximising decision for the HSE:)
I have attended his courses in Public Speaking, Industrial Economics and also the lecture on "How to write diploma paper”. To my mind, he is one of the greatest and extremely talented teacher. His style of teaching is something really special in the most positive way. He's manners and the way of presenting the material combined with great sense of humour and some real life stories, provided as an examples, plays great role holding the attention and interest of the whole class on subject and really motivates to work hard.
Never skipped a single lecture of his and have to say, that all the material i’ve learned is very useful not only in academic proposes, but in real life situations. Also the motivation and energy he gives to his students during classes are incredible.
Honestly, thanks to him, I found his courses ones of the most interesting and useful at HSE.
Hope Kosmas will win the award as he definitely deserves it.
Besides teaching, prof. Marinakis was also a great academic supervisor for me. He always gave lots of comments and critique, as well as suggestions for improvement of my undergraduate thesis. So, the final result speaks for itself, since I got an excellent grade and I also was admitted to one of the top PhD programs.
I am sure that Kosmas will continue to motivate his students working hard and inspire them to make amazing academic and industry careers. He totally deserves this nomination for his excellent job.
At first glance, Kosmas is a typecast of the perfect professor - intelligent, attentive, debonair and hilarious. But when it comes to rules Dr Marinakis is really demanding. Somehow he has found a balance between being strict professor who expects his students to work hard and be persistant and being someone between a friend and a role model.
It is clearly seen that Kosmas learns just as much as his students, which means that he is not only gives but expects a feedback which encourages students to participate in lectures, talk about the subject and think. Treating everybody equally, Dr Marinakis created an atmospehere where every single student feels included and appreciated.
His own passion is a matter why his lectures attend so many students and his ability to share it is a reason why so many of them succeed in micro. In my opinion, Kosmas Marinakis is an incredible lecturer, who inspired many people if not to bundle their lives with microeconomics but at least to enjoy the process of studying and being able to have fun at a serious lecture.
Congratulations, Dr Marinakis and good luck!
What makes a good teacher an outstanding teacher, is the ability and desire to make students to be interested in his subject, the ability to listen to students and Pr. Marinakis copes with these tasks at 100% and does so with love and pleasure.
I join to all aforesaid and hope the jury will award Kosmas Marinakis with the prize Zolotaya Vishka as he really deserves it.
I wish Kosmas Marinakis best of luck in all his future beginnings!
Best Regards,
Dilyara
Couple years ago I got a chance to attend "Public Speaking" course and I was impressed by the charisma and the energy of the speaker. Professor Marinakis was giving informal and very valuable advice in very friendly manner. It was literally impossible to get over the lecture.
Year after I took elective course "Industrial Economics" and was never disappointed. Professor Marinakis has his own approach to Economics and he is able to explain it and provide real life examples to help students to understand the subject. And Professor is in love with what he is doing! It makes him so special. As well as his sense of humor which helps students to keep concentrated and interested in.
Apart from the teaching, Professor discussed with us some ethical topics and shared his believes and values, he was some fair and open-minded.
I believe that all of these makes Professor Marinakis the perfect nominee for the reward.
Professor, thank you for all your afford and good luck!
Regards,
Elizaveta
On a different note, Kosmas Marinakis was very helpful with my application for graduate studies. I was somewhat lost in the process of gathering all the documents, but he guided me, helping to come up with a list of schools to apply to among other important things. The end result speaks for itself, as I was able to get into one of the top programs.
If there is one person who should be getting this award, it is Prof. Marinakis. Congrats with the nomination and good luck!
So I wish Kosmas good luck with his nomination!
I wish Mr. Marinakis all the luck with his nomination.
He definetely deserves this reward! I can state with confidence that he is a motivated and responsible person with a high degree of integrity. As such, I am sure that he is a very positive and valuable part of ICEF and HSE in general. He is very hardworking person with a responsible attitude to work, he thoroughly prepares to every lecture. And he prepares best minds for academic and corporate spheres.
Also he is very nice, friendly and open-minded person.
Best, Elena
I attended the Microeconomics course, that took part during my 4th Semester at HSE and last year I had a chance to enjoy Public Speaking Seminar.
Microeconomics course was my first experience of english lectures - at the beginning I was confused but by virtue of perfect diction and outstanding oratorical skills I became familiar with the subject. The topics felt easy and understandable and attending lectures was a pleasure for me. As for Public Speaking - it was a unique workshop that allowed me to prepare for my Bachelor thesis - I did a good presentation, what was remarked by our committe and got for it excellent mark. I consider public speaking training was a significant contribution towards my success.
Moreover, prof. Marinakis is a very pleasant person - approachable, with good sence of humor and always smiling. I appreciate his attitude - he won't neglect a conversation with a student and will give a valuable advice.
I would also remark professor as a specialist in his field - he likes his subject, always enhances his knowledge and is perfectly prepared for the lectures.
For the aforementioned reasons I will definitelly support him in this nomination, he is worth it!
I've had a lot of teachers and professors on my academic way. Some of them were actually great at what they did, but none of them were even quite close to what Dr. Marinakis does during his lectures. Even if you are a hard student to catch attention of, he easily manages to do it - always by making you interested again. He explains the hard material so entertaining that the students sometimes do not see how hard this material was (of course, you need to study hard to be successful, but it's always worth it!). By the end of the study with him you will get a pretty heavy bunch of knowledge, an unforgettable experience, a smart interlocutor and a never ending inspiration for further studies. He is able to turn Economics from a tedious subject into a real-life inseparable matter that is not only useful and meaningful, but also very engaging.
Thank you, Professor, for the unforgettable year, for my reheated interest in Economics, for the best lectures I ever had! Ευχαριστώ πολύ!
I really hope that the exceptional work of Professor Marinakis will get even wider recognized. Because it has to. Because it's unique.
He is so good at capturing individual attention that you do not want to get distracted by anything else, even if microeconomics has never been your favorite subject. Dr.Marinakis not only inspires his students to do the best at his subject, but also does everything possible for us to enjoy the journey with his demands always being very clear and him acting in our best interests. Moreover, he develops work ethics in his students, providing valuable insights on life and making you understand that all you need to achieve your goals is to work hard for them.
Dr.Marinakis, thank you for those unforgettable lectures. We all support you and wish you luck!
I am glad that your efforts, enthusiasm are recognized. Congratulations! All the best and lots of success in new projects!
Best regards,
Irina
