HSE University hosted its long-awaited student festival ‘Night’ at its building on 11 Pokrovsky Boulevard Thursday. Featuring 12 hours of lectures, games, master classes, music, and conversation. It was a night no students, lecturers or guests had any time for sleep. Ekaterina Streltsova, Senior Research Fellow at HSE ISSEK, participated in the Research Fail Night session, where she talked about how she was nearly kicked out of the supermarket during a social experiment, and then held a series of individual consultations in the format of Science Dating.

A special session in honor of the anniversary of Evgeny M. Andreev was held on November 21, as part of the international conference "Demographic trends in Russia: Legacy of the Soviet Era or a new tendency?"

We are glad to congratulate our graduates with successful defenses of their master's theses and the culmination of a learning marathon that each student has worked hard to complete. The staff of Master’s programme wishes them good luck and great success in their further careers.

Every year the world’s cinema adds something to the shelf where feature films about scientists are kept. It might be about time to conduct a study “The image of scientist in popular culture”. The image should be a flattering one: scientists in movies are either villains, heroes, or geniuses. The only problem is, stories about saving the world and being a genius have very little in common with researchers’ everyday life. To mark the World Science Day we made a short list of movies where scientists are portrayed more or less realistically.

On October 27, Higher School of Economics held the Lunokhod-1 science festival in the Digital October convention centre. Our laboratory presented an interactive supercomputer demonstration booth at the event. D.Sc. V.V.Stagailov delivered a popular science report “Why do we need supercomputers, how to design and use them?”.
