The President Noted HSE Researchers’ Contribution to Advancing Science and Education

The website kremlin.ru has published the Presidential Decree №416 of 10 September, 2017 rewarding six staff members of the Higher School of Economics “for major contribution to advancing science, education, and training high-skilled professionals, and for many years of conscientious work”. Among them was Leonid Gokhberg, HSE First Vice Rector and ISSEK Director, who was awarded the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland, II grade”.

Seminar "The research on cancer and its determinants based on the data from cancer registers: The role of cancer registers in determining the real state of oncological aid provided to the population"

The fifth scientific seminar ‘Modern demography’ of the International laboratory for population and health NRU HSE took place on the 7th of September. On this seminar researches on cancer and its determinants based on the data from cancer registers and the role of cancer registers in determining the real status of oncological aid provided to the population were discussed. Giedre Smailyte, head of the Laboratory of cancer epidemiology of the National cancer institute, Vilnius, Lithuania, Domantas Jasilionis, research scientist at the Laboratory of Demographic data of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, Germany and Vakhtang M. Merabishvili, head of the Population based cancer register of St. Petersburg, chairman of the Scientific and methodological council for the development of information systems of the cancer service of the North-Western Federal District of Russia, St. Petersburg, Russia, presented their papers.

A series of ISSEK-authored papers published in Scientometrics

In 2017 a leading international journal in the field, Scientometrics, published six papers by staff members of the HSE Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge describing application of various sociology of science and Foresight techniques for the purposes of studying driving forces and directions of scientific development.

Economics of European Crises and Emerging Markets

IIMS Director Andrei Yakovlev contributed a chapter titled «Political Response to the Crisis: The Case of Russia» to a new book by Palgrave Macmillan «Economics of European Crises and Emerging Markets». The chapter was co-authored with Natalia Akindinova, Andrey Chernyavsky and Nikolay Kondrashov.

Visiting researcher at ICSID

Amanda Zadorian, Ph.D. Candidate in Politics at the New School for Social Research, spent a month working at ICSID this summer. Amanda answered a couple of our questions about her current research and her stay in Moscow.
