Eduard Ponarin: In Kazan I had a meeting with the colleagues from the Institute of Modernization Studies. This is a new institution that is being created right now. The first discussion of this idea with the principal of the Kazan University happened in September 2010, and they plan to sign all the papers this March.
On March 10, 2011 the first LCSS seminar was held in Moscow. The first topic of discussion was the confrontation between Right and Left in Europe, the economist Alexei Zaharov was the first speaker. the Head of Laboratory, Prof. Eduard Ponarin, gave an assessment of the event.
On March 10, 2011 the HSE Faculty of Sociology hosted the first Laboratory for Comparative Social Studies workshop (LCSS). The report "Nationalism and ethnic discrimination: a review of quantitative research" was made by Alexei Zaharov, LCSS research fellow.

The final day of the conference started with a meeting of the young researches and with HSE professors Eduard Ponarin and Daniel Alexandrov. They gathered to discuss the conference results at the Azimut hotel.
he third day of the conference started with the reports by scheduled participants. The discussion of the reports was held after their speeches. All participants of the conference got the remarks and recommendations from LCSS management.
On the second day of the conference participants had an opportunity to present their individual projects to the LCSS management.
On December 16, 2010, Laboratory for Comparative Social Studies hosted the international conference «Agenda for Comparative Social Research» in Saint Petersburg. The conference was devoted to the prospects of establishing an international research network. Its main feature will be comparative perspective.
The Higher School of Economics in St. Petersburg and Ronald Inglehart (University of Michigan) won a large grant of the Russian government. The creation of contemporary international research center headed by prominent international scientists is a condition for grant approval.
