Research Seminar on Diversity and Development

A new series of the ICSID-CSDSI regular seminar on Diversity and Development started on September 11, 2018. Anand Sokhey's presentation "Beyond Thoughts and Prayers: The Christian Nationalism of the Gun Control Debate" opened the seminar series this new academic year. The event was held jointly with the seminar “Political Economy” and Economic Development and Growth Research Group.

Seminar "Average life expectancy and life years lost in people with mental disorders"

The 11th scientific seminar "Modern demography" was held on the 7th of September. Vladimir Canudas-Romo, PhD, associate professor of School of demography at College of arts and social sciences of Australian national university presented a paper "Average life expectancy and life years lost in people with mental disorders".

ICSID research fellow David Szakonyi — 2018 Gabriel A. Almond Award Recipient

The American Political Science Association (APSA) presented the Gabriel A. Almond Award to David Szakonyi at the 2018 APSA Annual Meeting & Exhibition, the world’s largest gathering of political scientists and source for emerging scholarship in the discipline. The award recognizes the best dissertation on comparative politics. The award was created in recognition of Gabriel Almond's contributions to the discipline, profession, and Association. Almond's scholarly work contributed directly to the development of theory in comparative politics and brought together work on the developing areas and Western Europe that prevented splintering into an array of disparate areas studies.

Triple Helix in Manchester

The University of Manchester (UK) hosted the XVI International Triple Helix Conference on 5-8 September, 2018. The ISSEK was represented by Mikhail Gershman, Deputy Director of the Centre for S&T, Innovation and Information Policy who presented new indicators which could help improve efficiency of public administration in the Russian R&D sphere.

Region 2.0 — Looking for Smart Specialisation in the Era of Global Challenges

On August, 28–29, the 5th International Management Platform named after V. N. Eitingon under the motto ‘Leadership of the future. Knowledge. Skills. Results’ took place in Voronezh. Alexander Chulok, Director of the HSE ISSEK Centre for Science and Technology Foresight, took part in the plenary session and moderated one of the sections.

Biomedical Clusters: an International Experience for Moscow’s Infrastructure

What is a healthy city, how many residents of the capital adhere to a healthy lifestyle, what are the opportunities for this in Moscow? These and other issues were discussed on August 27 in the press centre of TASS at the panel discussion ‘Infrastructure of a healthy city’, organised by the Foundation of the International Medical Cluster, Moscow Centre of urban studies ‘City’ and VCIOM. The event was attended by Evgeniy Kutsenko, head of the HSE ISSEK Russian Cluster Observatory.

BRICS Countries Catching Up with EU and US in Publication Activity, According to Scopus

HSE ISSEK researchers Maxim Kotsemir and Sergey Shashnov have reviewed the BRICS countries' research landscape using data from 2000—2015 from the Scopus citation database. They found that academic activity in the BRICS is growing at a fast pace and catching up with that of the EU countries and the US.

Andrei Yakovlev as a guest researcher in Bremen

From August 13 to 25, 2018, IIMS Director Andrei Yakovlev is visiting the University of Bremen on invitation of the Faculty of Business Studies and Economics, working group of Jutta Günther. His visit takes place within the DAAD Eastern Partnership program and serves to continue and intensify joint academic research, exchange and development of future fields of cooperation.

Global Сhallenges to Moscow

The Moscow City Department of Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and the Higher School of Economics held a joint field foresight session in the scope of setting up the Moscow Innovation and Production Cluster. More than 200 experts — representatives of the research and education community, innovative businesses, and public authorities discussed priority areas for development of the capital city’s S&T sector, global trends affecting the city’s economy, and incentives and cooperation mechanisms which would help to make a technological leap.
