The 6th World Congress on Global Optimization (WCGO-2019) was held in the French city of Metz from July 8 to July 10, 2019. The event was held at the University of Lorraine (Université de Lorraine). Dmitry Frolov shared his impressions on his visit to Metz.

The Russian Science Foundation announced the results of its 2019 competitions for support from the Presidential Research Project Programme. One competition was for grants in support of research initiatives by early career researchers, and another was in support of research conducted by research groups headed by early career scholars.

The project’s authors are Fuad Aleskerov, Tenured Professor at HSE and Head of the International Laboratory of Decision Choice and Analysis, Laboratory Researchers Sergey Shvydun, Evgeny Mitichkin and Vyacheslav Yakuba, as well as Vyacheslav Chistyakov, Professor at the HSE Campus in Nizhny Novgorod.

Professor Emeritus John W. Berry of Queen’s University, Kingston Ontario, Canada and the National Research University Higher School of Economics, Moscow, Russia as the winner of the 2019 William B. Gudykunst Outstanding Book Award for his edited book: Mutual Intercultural Relations published by the Cambridge University Press, 2017.

The article “Elections, Protest, and Trust in Government: A Natural Experiment from Russia” by Timothy Frye and Ekaterina Borisova was published online on the Journal of Politics website on April 16.

ICSID associate fellow Michael Rochlitz has been recently appointed Professor of Economics with the specialization “institutional change” at the University of Bremen.

HSE students participated in Creation Lab, an annual international business hackathon, which is organised as part of the World Business Dialogue in Cologne. The forum’s partner educational, power and retail businesses will implement the best of the suggested solutions in their operations. For the second year in a row, Olga Dremova, a student of the of the HSE ISSEK master’s programme 'Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation', participated in the hackathon. Her team defended the idea of how to simplify the admission of foreign exchange students with the using gamification.

A new book by the Member of the WVSA Governing Board Pippa Norris (Harvard University, Massachusetts) and WVSA Founding President Ronald Inglehart (University of Michigan, Ann Arbor) “Cultural Backlash: Trump, Brexit, and Authoritarian Populism” is being published now by Cambridge University Press.
